Netanyahu Pushes for Full Gaza Invasion as Talks Break Down

Netanyahu Gaza invasion

The war in Gaza has entered a more dangerous phase as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushes for a complete military takeover of the Gaza Strip. This comes at a time when ceasefire negotiations with Hamas have reached a stalemate, and both sides are accusing each other of bad faith.

Ceasefire and Hostage Negotiations Stall Completely

Efforts to reach a deal between Israel and Hamas involving the release of hostages and a ceasefire have effectively broken down. According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, talks have halted due to deep disagreements on core demands.

  • Hamas, the militant group ruling Gaza, insists that the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the region must be urgently addressed before further talks.
  • Israel, meanwhile, is losing patience with the negotiation process, especially after the release of harrowing hostage videos.

This impasse has led Prime Minister Netanyahu to lean toward escalating military operations rather than returning to the negotiating table. According to Israeli media reports, Netanyahu is set to push for “full conquest” of Gaza in the next security cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

Netanyahu Pushes for Total Military Conquest

Israeli outlet Ynet cited senior officials close to Netanyahu who stated:
“The die is cast – we’re going for full conquest. If the Chief of Staff doesn’t agree – he should resign.”

The report has been validated by a source speaking to CNN, who said the statement is accurate and reflects the growing sentiment among Israel’s political leadership to move ahead with expanded military action.

Netanyahu appears to be mobilizing his cabinet to endorse a full occupation of the Gaza Strip, citing stalled diplomacy and increasing pressure from political allies on the right.

Opposition from Israel’s Defense Establishment

Despite this political momentum, Israel’s military and intelligence leadership reportedly oppose further ground operations, particularly in areas where hostages are believed to be located.

Military officials are concerned that such operations could jeopardize the lives of the hostages, most of whom are thought to be held in dense urban areas where airstrikes and incursions could have devastating consequences.

Families of Hostages Strongly Oppose Escalation

Families of the Israeli hostages are also raising their voices against the proposed military action. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, which represents their interests, issued a scathing statement accusing the government of misleading the public.

“Netanyahu is preparing the greatest deception of all,” the forum said.
“The repeated claims of freeing hostages through military victory are a lie and a public fraud.”

Many mothers of Israeli soldiers have also condemned the move, stating that a wider war would put both hostages and soldiers at unacceptable risk.

Foreign Minister: Military Expansion Reflects Desire to End War

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar offered his perspective on the government’s shift toward more aggressive action, saying on Monday:

“It reflects a wish to see all the hostages come back, and the wish to see the end of this war after the talks for a partial deal were not successful.”

The government appears to be calculating that continued military pressure could lead to greater leverage over Hamas, though critics argue that further war will bring more suffering without guaranteed results.

Steve Witkoff: The U.S. Approach Focuses on Ending the War

In a parallel development, Steve Witkoff, former President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, met with the families of the hostages over the weekend. He reportedly emphasized a different approach, focused on ending the war instead of widening it.

During a three-hour meeting with the Hostages and Missing Families Forum on Saturday, Witkoff reportedly said:

“The plan is not to expand the war but to end it. We think the negotiations should be changed to all or nothing. End the war and bring all 50 hostages home at the same time – that’s the only way.”

He also reportedly warned that “someone will be to blame” if the remaining hostages are not brought back alive. While his office declined to elaborate further, his statements suggest that the U.S. may favor a broader ceasefire deal over piecemeal negotiations.

Former President Trump later confirmed that Witkoff may soon travel to Moscow to further engage on the issue, though details remain limited.

Disturbing Hostage Videos Released by Hamas

Over the weekend, Hamas released video footage of two Israeli hostages, Evyatar David and Rom Braslavski, who appeared severely malnourished and physically weak.

  • The videos have sparked shock and outrage across Israel.
  • Netanyahu said the images were meant to “break Israeli resolve”, accusing Hamas of using “false horror propaganda” to manipulate global opinion and pressure Israel into concessions.

However, many within Israel—including hostage families—warned against using such footage as a justification for military escalation.

Hostage Forum Calls for Immediate Deal

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum continues to push for a negotiated settlement:

“Bring the 50 hostages home, end the war, and then rebuild and revive Israel,” the group said in a public statement.

They reiterated that military pressure has failed to free hostages and warned that time is running out to ensure their safe return.

Hamas Links Talks to Humanitarian Crisis

Senior Hamas official Basem Naim stated that the group remains committed to negotiations, but only if the “catastrophic humanitarian situation” in Gaza is addressed.

Another Hamas figure, Mahmoud Mardawi, told CNN last week:

“There is no point in continuing talks while Gaza is starving. People are dying. Aid is not getting through.”

Their statements highlight the growing crisis inside Gaza, where infrastructure has collapsed and famine-like conditions are spreading fast.

Gaza’s Humanitarian Crisis Reaches New Depths

Malnutrition Soars Among Children

According to the World Health Organization (WHO):

  • More than 5,000 children under age five were treated for malnutrition in the first two weeks of July alone.
  • Hunger-related deaths are increasing sharply as aid delivery fails to meet growing needs.

Aid Falling Drastically Short

The Hamas-run Gaza Government Media Office said:

  • 600 truckloads of humanitarian aid are needed daily to meet minimum needs.
  • However, the average last week was only 84 trucks per day, leaving a massive shortfall.

Israeli Officials Provide Conflicting Numbers

The Israeli authority COGAT (Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories) stated on Monday that:

  • Over 200 trucks were collected and distributed by international organizations on Sunday.

Still, aid groups on the ground report severe disruptions, with many trucks being looted by desperate civilians or gangs before the aid reaches distribution centers.

UN: Over 1,300 Killed While Seeking Food

The United Nations issued a devastating report last week, highlighting the extreme dangers people face just trying to eat:

Time Period Deaths While Seeking Food Source of Attack
May–July 2025 1,373 civilians killed Majority by Israeli military
Near GHF Aid Sites 859 killed Near U.S.-backed aid locations
On Food Convoy Routes 514 killed Many shot while approaching convoys

On Sunday alone, 30 people were killed while trying to reach food supplies:

  • 19 in northern Gaza
  • 11 in Rafah, near an aid center run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF)

CNN has contacted the Israeli military for a response regarding these incidents. No public comment has been made.

Israeli Public Opinion Shows Growing Fatigue

A new survey conducted by the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) revealed that:

  • 38% of Israeli Jews do not believe Hamas can be disarmed.
  • 57% believe it’s possible, showing divided public opinion.
  • Support is growing for ending the war and securing the hostages’ release through a deal.

Retired Israeli Security Officials Call for War’s End

A coalition of retired senior Israeli military and intelligence officers published an open letter on Monday. They urged former U.S. President Trump to use his influence to pressure Netanyahu to end the war.

The letter stated:

“It is our professional judgment that Hamas no longer poses a strategic threat to Israel.”

Ami Ayalon, the former head of Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency, added:

“At first this war was a just, defensive war. But when we achieved all military objectives, this war ceased to be just.”

These comments underline a growing rift between Israel’s political leadership and its security establishment, with many retired officials now calling for a shift in strategy.

Far-Right in Government Pushes for Occupation

Meanwhile, far-right members of Netanyahu’s coalition are pushing for a full occupation of Gaza and even policies that could lead to mass displacement of Palestinian residents.

This stance marks a radical escalation and has drawn criticism from international observers who warn it would violate international law and provoke wider conflict in the region.

Escalation or Resolution?

As the situation in Gaza grows more desperate and Israel debates between military conquest and diplomatic settlement, the stakes couldn’t be higher. On one side are hostages at risk, on the other, millions of civilians trapped in a war zone.

With negotiations frozen and international pressure rising, the choices made in the coming days may determine not only the fate of Gaza and Israel but also the broader stability of the Middle East.
