Karnataka Govt Grants 6 Months Paternity Leave for Fathers
Following the birth of a child, women are granted an extended period of maternity leave. According to sources, the Karnataka government believes unmarried men should be granted at least six months of work leave to care for their children.
In a recent development, the newly formed government in Karnataka has declared that single fathers employed in government jobs will now be entitled to a paternity leave of 180 days to cater to the needs of their newborns. This announcement was made on June 9, 2021. The aforementioned benefit is set to be extended to men who are single, widowed, or divorced.

The announcement explicitly stated that in the event of a man’s marriage during his parental leave, his paternity leave would be terminated immediately. Effective immediately, the state government has announced six months of paternity leave.
