Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
He claims on Twitter that he is “OK” and that he will continue to work remotely this week in accordance with public health norms.
“Please get vaccinated and get boosted,” he also says in his tweet.
Trudeau announced last Thursday that he would be isolated for five days after learning the night before that he had been in contact with someone who had tested positive for HIV. On Friday, he told The Canadian Press that one of his three children had tested positive for COVID-19.

Trudeau will hold a virtual news conference this morning to offer statements and receive questions from the media. Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, his wife, contracted COVID-19 in March 2020, at the start of the epidemic, forcing Trudeau to withdraw into isolation.
Meanwhile, for the first time in over a month, Ontario’s restaurants, gyms, and theaters will welcome guests back on Monday. It’s the first step in the province’s effort to gradually loosen public health restrictions aimed at preventing COVID-19 from spreading.
After being closed on Jan. 5 due to the rapid spread of the Omicron strain of the coronavirus, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas will reopen today at half capacity. Larger venues will also reopen, but only to a capacity of 50% or 500 people, whichever is lower.
Indoor meetings will be limited to ten individuals, while outdoor gatherings will be limited to twenty-five persons. On February 21, the province aims to relax COVID-19 limitations even more, with the majority of restrictions being lifted in March.

Quebec is also taking moves to reopen the province on Monday, after it was temporarily closed during the Christmas owing to record-high hospitalizations. Premier Francois Legault declared last week that, as the COVID-19 situation has improved, he intends to gradually lift public health restrictions.
Today, restaurant dining rooms can open to half-capacity, with no more than four persons or two homes at a table. Last call is at 11 p.m., with a midnight closing time. Indoor parties of up to four people are also permitted, as are two family bubbles.
With the necessary vaccine passport for children 13 and up, extracurricular sports can resume in primary and high schools, CEGEPs, and universities. On February 7, the second phase of Quebec’s plan to loosen restrictions will begin, with places of worship, entertainment, and sports venues allowed to reopen at a reduced capacity.
