Best Foods to Lower Uric Acid Levels Naturally

best foods to lower uric acid levels

Uric acid comprises carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen contained in it, and it belongs to the group of solids, mainly dissolved in water. Excessive accumulation of this substance in the human body causes the formation of stones and other disorders. Uric acid exists in some foods and drinks; however, most of it dissolves in the blood and moves to the kidneys. Body produces and removes it. A person can get ill if he/she produces too much uric acid or if it removes not enough of it.

Possibly the most well-known consequence of excessive levels of uric acid in a person’s body is the development of the disease gout, which primarily affects the joints, bursae, membranes surrounding the tendons, or even the kidneys, by causing pain and inflammation, discomfort, and limiting movements.

Prevention is recommended with higher amounts of water, more exercise, lower consumption of alcohol, and less intake of red meat or meat with many sugars. Below, you will find some eating habits that you could change to reduce uric acid levels in your body.

Foods That Contain Very Little Purine

Other foods are purine-containing; this is an organic compound that degrades into uric acid in the body, and its consumption is to be moderated. Foods like red meat (beef, pork, lamb), poultry (turkey and goose), seafood (mussels, sardines), and organ meats (liver and kidneys) are not recommended when one wants to control the levels of this substance in their blood.

In this respect, instead of that, food with low purine levels should be taken. Examples include fruits, vegetables, mostly cherries, skim and low-fat dairy, whole grains, proteins of vegetarian origin, which is tofu, legumes, and lentils.

Do Not Drink Sweetened Beverages or Alcohol

The sweetened drinks, especially the high-fructose corn syrup in them, increase the levels of uric acids in the body. Similarly, indulgence in alcohol, especially beer and bitter liquor, can elevate the uric acid and be a cause of the gout attack. Thus, it is far better to drink the way nature planned, with large quantities of water to keep the hydration on the right track.

Introduce Anti-inflammatory Foods

Some types of food, like ginger and turmeric, or omega-3 fatty acids found in fatty fish such as salmon and chia seeds, help to treat inflammation and maintain low levels of uric acid.

Infusions That Will Help You

Eating infusions or teas will also help regulate uric acid. This can be achieved, for instance, with an infusion of onion. It sounds weird, but this is one of the top home remedies to lower uric acid. It has many of the helpful natural acids and antioxidants that help break the crusts gathered due to uric acid. For instance, equisetum tea works for controlling inflammation. It also behaves like a diuretic, helping to eliminate liquids and drain toxins. Another good and effective idea is to bathe the feet with warm water in which you should dilute a little apple cider vinegar—a very popular and at the same time effective home remedy in the care of an adequate level of uric acid capable of breaking the substance and helping to prevent crystallization.

It is also important to mention that a full approach is required to effectively reduce uric acid concentrations, changing the diet and lifestyle of people. A high level of activity that uses muscle and joint function must support these dietary changes, combining physical activity with stress management because stress can promote elevated uric acid.

Finally, if these signs and symptoms are similar to those of gout, we recommend seeking health professionals who can confirm that the pain is actually due to this disturbance or any other condition related to an abnormal substance known as uric acid, including obesity, leukemia, deficiency of vitamin B12, and others that are detected through blood tests.
