Major Arcana Moon Tarot Card: Meaning of Love, Fortune, Health & Career

Moon Tarot Card

Although the moon tarot card is not as well-known as, say, the death card, it is nevertheless a significant card in its own right. In case you need a review on tarot 101, the tarot is divided into two sections: the major and minor arcana. The minor arcana cards are concerned with events in your daily life. Meanwhile, according to Frances Naude, a reiki master, and tarot card reader, the major arcana, of which the moon tarot card is a part, reflects life themes and usually emerges when a life lesson needs to be learned or a karmic cycle has to be addressed.

There are 22 major arcana cards, and the moon tarot card is number 18, nestled between the star (17) and the sun (19), completing a triple. “The star and the sun cast their light on the moon, illuminating her phases of perpetual change, exactly as nature intended,” explains Naude.

The meaning of the moon tarot card, like other tarot cards, has multiple layers, and it is up to the reader to interpret it in their own way. While knowing where the moon tarot card falls in the tarot card journey, the beautiful picture, and your trusty intuition can all help decode its message, learning the moon tarot card’s traditional meaning can be extremely helpful in understanding what the heck the cosmos is trying to express.

Continue reading for a description of the conventional meanings of the moon tarot card, including its message if it appears in a romance, job, health, or money reading.

The Moon tarot card is upright meaning

When the moon tarot card shows upright in a reading, it is a reminder to move through change and life transitions with ease and grace rather than fear and resistance, according to Naude, which is why it may occur more frequently when you are experiencing a lot of change. “The advise is to see our new phase as an exciting opportunity that lights our highest way forward, and to trust in the unknown road rather than dread it,” Naude explains.

The moon tarot card can also represent unsolved worries and anxieties from the past that need to be addressed. “Rather than avoiding them, take the time to allow them to arise and trust that you are strong enough to handle them,” Naude advises. “You may wish to seek the assistance of a healer, therapist, or other support systems who can help you through this phase.”

Finally, the moon tarot card reminds us to be patient. Just like the moon passes through its phases naturally and cannot be rushed, Naude believes we must slow down and allow circumstances to unfold before making a judgment.

Reversed meaning

The moon tarot card can have a different meaning depending on the reader if it appears upside down, which is known as the reverse. If you prefer to read reversals, Naude says a reverse moon tarot card is a warning to take a breather and reconnect with your intuition. “The reversed moon card may represent that the changes in your life are exceedingly overwhelming or that they are happening too quickly,” she explains. “Trust that you have all of the knowledge and that you can perceive the situation as a whole. This shift is taking place for you, not in spite of you.”

According to Naude, a reversed moon tarot card might also signify avoiding certain things that are generating a disturbance in your thoughts and energy. “The advice here is to allow yourself to love all areas of your life right now and trust that you will be fine,” she says. “This is just a phase, and you will get through it.”

General meaning and interpretation (Upright)

The common interpretation of The Moon Tarot card in an upright posture is that not everything is as it appears. It is also the Tarot Major Arcana card of intuition. The Moons indicate that something about a situation or person in your life is not as it appears, and you must trust your intuition in order to see past this illusion.

The Moon also suggests that you pay attention to your dreams because your subconscious may be directing your attention to facts you’ve overlooked. The Moon can also indicate that you are allowing your anxiety or fear to overpower you, which may be affecting your outlook and causing you to experience mood swings, instability, or insecurity.

It can also indicate the menstrual cycle of a woman. The Moon can also represent the resurrection of hidden insecurities or repressed concerns. The Moon Tarot card can symbolize shady or unlawful dealings or actions. If it comes in this context, it is a warning to clean up your act before your actions are exposed. If you are waiting for a decision on something, The Moon suggests that the answer will either be delayed or will be so ambiguous that it will add to your uncertainty rather than clarify problems.

General meaning and interpretation (Reversed)

In general, The Moon Tarot card reversed can represent the release of anxieties or the purging of negative energy. It can also indicate the disclosure of secrets or lies. If you’ve been experiencing fear or worry, it should start to go away. If you’ve misplaced anything, The Moon reversed is a sign that you’ll locate it. This Major Arcana card may also represent delusions or self-deception.

You may be deluding yourself about your role in generating your current circumstances, or you may be struggling to distinguish between your own illusions or delusions and reality. The Moon in retrograde can also mean that any depression or mental health troubles you’ve been dealing with will start to lift and you’ll be able to see the light again. You will work through any repressed issues or insecurities in order to regain your confidence and clarity. Deception does not always have to be motivated by malice; it can also be motivated by kindness or the desire to spare another person’s feelings. Hiding the truth, on the other hand, is never a viable option.

Money & Career (Upright)

When The Moon Tarot card appears in a career situation, you may feel highly unsure, if not apprehensive, about your job path. In the workplace, there may be miscommunication between you and your coworkers or superiors, which could lead to conflicts or misunderstandings.

In terms of finance, The Moon suggests that you should be cautious about making large financial investments or gambling because you may not have all of the information you need to make an informed decision. It could also signify that someone is intentionally misrepresenting you in order to defraud you for money. How to intuitively read the moon tarot card

All of that being said, if you’re a tarot newcomer and the traditional interpretations of the moon tarot card don’t resonate with you or feel overpowering, consider this your permission to toss it all out the window. Each tarot card has no right or incorrect interpretation. Your intuition is more than enough to discern the meaning of the moon tarot card, or any tarot card.

Naude advocates tapping into your various “claims” of intuition to do this (aka your psychic superpowers). Clairvoyance (clear seeing), claircognizance (clear knowing), clairsentience (clear feeling), and clairaudience are the four clairs (clear hearing). In other words, while you look at the moon tarot card, pay attention to what you see in the imagery and the tale it tells you, as well as what you know or feel without explanation, or what you hear in your thoughts. Then utilize that information to deduce your own meaning.

The Moon Tarot Card Advice Position

The Moon card tells you to believe in your instincts and intuitions. Your intuitive body, which is linked to everything living, is sharper and faster than your cultivated, civilized self. The average person’s mentality may not be prepared for unusual maritime settings. Furthermore, it lacks a game plan. If you don’t meddle with or try to control what you experience, your intuitive body will always be there for you. Meditation would be a better strategy. Try to be merely a bystander. Do nothing and allow nature to carry you forward. In this case, this may be your best alternative.
