Sophia Bush, the star of “One Tree Hill,” has found love again, and she’s opening up about her journey in a beautifully candid essay for Glamour magazine.
The best part? She has a deep affection for American soccer icon Ashlyn Harris!
In her essay, Sophia, who’s now 41, talks about how coming out as queer feels like a “first birthday” all over again. She writes, “I don’t think I can explain how profound that is.
I feel like I was wearing a weighted vest for who knows how long. I hadn’t realized how heavy it was until I finally just put it down.”
Sophia was previously married to Grant Hughes, an entrepreneur. Well, she filed for divorce in August 2023 after just one year together. Coincidentally, Ashlyn also filed for divorce from her wife, Ali Krieger, in September.
However, Sophia clarifies in her essay that neither of them had any scandalous affairs. She explains that after their respective splits, she and Ashlyn, who first met back in 2019, grew closer as friends and helped each other heal.
It wasn’t until Sophia asked Ashlyn out on a “non-friend-group hang” that sparks really started to fly. She describes it as one of “the most surreal experiences” of her life, adding, “Maybe it was all fated.
Maybe it really is a version of invisible string theory. I don’t really know. But I do know that for a sparkly moment, I felt like maybe the universe had been conspiring for me.”
While Sophia’s former partners knew about her interest in women, it took a lot of self-love and personal work for her to proudly acknowledge it out loud and allow herself to enter a relationship with another woman.
“It took me 41 years to get here,” she admits. “When I take stock of the last few years, I can tell you that I have never operated out of more integrity in my life.”
Sophia’s story is a beautiful reminder that it’s never too late to embrace your truth and find love in unexpected places. We’re so happy for her and Ashlyn, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this inspiring couple!
