The release dates for the seventh and eighth installments of the Mission: Impossible series have been pushed back owing to pandemic-related delays, according to Deadline. The two films are the latest in a long line of films that have been delayed by the pandemic, which has upended Hollywood as it struggles to deal with closed cinemas and productions that have been paused or scaled back.
The films Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8, which were co-produced by Paramount Pictures and Skydance and star Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, an agent for the Impossible Mission Force, are the most recent installments in the film series, which began in 1996 and starred Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, an agent for the Impossible Mission Force.
Last year’s Mission: Impossible 7 was meant to come out on September 30th, but it was put back to July 14th, 2023, and Mission: Impossible 8 was supposed to come out on July 7th, 2023, but it was pushed back to June 28th, 2024. According to Deadline in February 2021, the initial plan called for the two films to be shot back-to-back, but Paramount revised the plan because the release timing was still so uncertain at the time.
Another Cruise film, Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the 1986 smash Top Gun, was originally scheduled for release in 2019 but was repeatedly postponed. It is still scheduled to be launched on May 27th of this year.
