AI has already transformed how we work, so it’s logical that AI will also impact the devices we work with. Take the Lenovo ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop as an illustration.
It transforms the conventional clamshell design into a device that fosters collaboration, ideal for navigating a landscape filled with AI-generated content.
The laptop prototype was unveiled at MWC 2024, showcasing a 17.3-inch micro-LED transparent display that offers a clear view of what’s behind the screen. The design enables virtual creations to be overlaid onto the real world, creating a see-through whiteboard effect. It would be like Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset, which can place virtual objects in your real environment. The transparency would prevent unexpected surprises from occurring, such as someone suddenly appearing from behind the screen.
The Micro-LED displays offer impressive color, contrast, and brightness similar to OLED displays. The ThinkBook’s display was exceptionally bright, reaching up to 1,000 nits. If there were any worries about using this in different environments, whether indoors or outdoors, the display’s transparency should not be a problem. Privacy concerns may arise, but Lenovo mentioned in its announcement that in the future, the transmittance will be adjustable to offer either more privacy or more transparency for interacting with real-world objects.
