Google is enhancing its Meet video calling platform for Workspace business customers by enabling direct 1-on-1 calls between users. Previously, Workspace users could only start video meetings by generating a link and sending invites. Now they can place personal voice and video calls directly to colleagues, similar to consumer Google Meet.
These direct calls include features like in-meeting chat, backgrounds, captions, and more depending on the Workspace edition. However, group calling and messaging capabilities found in consumer Meet are not available. The new direct calling aims to improve collaboration and connectivity for enterprise users.
Redesigned Mobile App Launching
Alongside direct calling, Google is rolling out a redesigned Meet mobile app for iOS and Android. It has a refreshed interface with the account switcher moved out of the search bar, and a new “Start a call” screen with contact suggestions. This is meant to simplify initiating calls and meetings. Coming to All Workspace Customers
Direct 1-on-1 calling will launch over the coming weeks to all Workspace tiers. It will be enabled for users that upgrade to the latest multicolor icon Meet mobile app. This marks continued enhancements to Meet as a unified communication platform.
