Google is celebrating International Women’s Day 2023 with a doodle this year. Google’s doodle focuses on the “various ways in which women help women.”

Google has elaborated on the reasoning for the International Women’s Day doodle: “The vignettes within each “GOOGLE” letter illustrate only a handful of the many ways in which women around the world help each other to advance and enhance their quality of life.”

International Women’s Day is commemorated annually on March 8, while Women’s History Month is observed throughout the month of March. The festivity this year coincides with the Hindu holiday of Holi. Today’s Google Doodle commemorates the event with an animation highlighting the various ways women support one another.

The purpose of the day is to recognize women’s contributions to society. As well as their cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements, and to push for gender equality, equal pay, and an end to discrimination against women. It is also a plea for a world that celebrates differences and is more varied, equal, and inclusive.

Google’s Doodle for International Women’s Day depicts vignettes within each letter of the word “Google” that depict the numerous ways in which women assist one another. The animation showcases influential women who advocate for improvement on topics fundamental to the lives of women worldwide. It also represents women who join together to explore, and study. And rally for their rights, women who are the primary caregivers for people from all walks of life. And mothers who are each other’s most important support networks.

As the Doodle is clicked, purple confetti falls from the screen, and ladies hoist purple flags while wearing purple wristbands. In 1908, Suffragettes donned purple to symbolize their campaign for the right of women to vote.

The website for International Women’s Day has announced “Embrace Equality” as the topic for International Women’s Day in 2023. The purpose of this theme is to create awareness of the distinction between equity and equality, as well as the significance of gender equity. The campaign aims to get the globe talking about “Why equal opportunities are not sufficient.”
