Brazilian football legend Pele re-entered an intensive care unit at Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein Hospital on Friday, according to ESPN Brasil.
Pele’s condition is unlikely to be revealed by the hospital, his daughter in an Instagram post said, “He is recovering well and within normal range. I promise!”.
“The normal recovery scenario for a man of his age after an operation like this is sometimes two steps forward and one step back,” wrote Kely Nascimento.
Pele, an 80-year-old three-time World Cup winner, was re-admitted to the ICU due to acid reflux, according to ESPN Brasil. He had a colon tumor removed earlier this month and was released from the intensive care unit on Tuesday.
The football legend Pele declared in an Instagram post to fans after leaving the ICU that he was ready for “90 minutes, plus extra time.”
When the tumor was discovered, he went to the hospital for standard checks at the end of August. The tumor was discovered during standard cardiovascular and laboratory checks, according to the hospital. It also stated that it had gathered samples for analysis but had not yet shared the results.
Since a failed hip replacement operation in 2012, Pele, the first male player to win three World Cups, has had mobility issues. In public, he has been compelled to utilize walkers and wheelchairs. In recent years, he has also been admitted to many hospitals for kidney and prostate treatments.
Pele won three World Cups, in 1958, 1962, and 1970, and is still Brazil’s all-time leading men’s scorer with 77 goals in 92 games. When Argentina’s Lionel Messi scored 79 goals in 153 appearances during a World Cup qualifying match last week, he broke the mark for most goals by a man from South America.
