Users of Facebook and Instagram are experiencing widespread problems, with numerous individuals mentioning that they were unexpectedly logged out of the social media platforms and are currently unable to regain access.
According to DownDetector, a website that tracks internet service disruptions, over 500,000 issues have been reported by Facebook users in the U.S. and more than 70,000 problems have been reported by Instagram users as of around 10:30 a.m. ET. According to DownDetector, the most common issues reported were related to logging into the Facebook app and problems with the Instagram app.
“We understand that individuals are experiencing difficulties accessing our service,” Meta representative Andy Stone stated on X, the former Twitter. We are currently addressing this.
Users worldwide experienced difficulties logging into Facebook, with reports coming in from Egypt to Oklahoma, as per DownDetector. There were individuals on social media who were worried about their accounts being hacked after getting kicked out of the service and not being able to log back in with their passwords.
“Meta platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads are currently facing outages related to login sessions in various countries; the incident is not connected to country-level internet disruptions or filtering,” as per NetBlocks, a global internet monitor, on X.
Meta Quest’s virtual reality headsets were also borrowed, as reported by tech site 9to5Mac.
The problem is described as a “major outage incident,” according to Isik Mater, the director of research at NetBlocks. Even the company’s official status page is currently displaying status ‘Unknown’ for all services.
