Elon Musk and Grimes have become parents for the second time.
Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, and Grimes, his on-again, off-again partner, secretly welcomed another child, the musician disclosed in a Vanity Fair cover story by Devin Gordon released Thursday.
It’s Musk and Grimes’ second kid, but Musk’s eighth and first girl. X A-Xii, the couple’s son, was born in May 2020 and is pronounced “X A.I. Archangel,” according to Grimes.
Grimes experienced considerable discomfort and problems throughout her pregnancy with X, so their daughter was conceived via surrogate. Exa Dark Siderl Musk is the name of the new baby, although everyone calls her Y.
“Exa” relates to the supercomputer term exaflops, “Dark” to “the unknown,” and “Siderl” is a “more elven” form of sidereal, “the true time of the cosmos,” pronounced “sigh-deer-ee-el,” according to Grimes.
Musk and Grimes never disclosed their second pregnancy, and it appears they intended to keep baby Y a secret — Gordon said he found out about her existence after arriving at Grimes’ house in Austin, Texas, for an interview and heard her wailing upstairs.
According to Gordon, Grimes stated at first, apparently embarrassed, “I’m not at liberty to speak on these matters.” “I just feel like kids ought to keep out of whatever is going on in the family.”
“X is simply out there,” she continued, adding that Musk seemed to regard the 2-year-old as a protégé, bringing him to public events.
Grimes smiled and told Gordon that the baby was “a little colicky,” and that she didn’t “know what I was thinking” trying to keep her a secret as Y wailed harder.
