The 5 Best Summer Getaway Destinations

Summer is almost here, so it’s time to start thinking about your summer getaway destinations! Whether you want to have a staycation, road trip, or full-blown getaway outside the country, we’ve got a suggestion for you.

Don’t be like the more than 40 million people in the US each year who have 7 or more days of paid vacation leftover at the end of the year. Take that PTO and enjoy yourself at one of these destinations!

  1. Napa

Summer is a gorgeous time to visit Napa. While nearby San Francisco sees some of its most miserable weather during the summer months (think rain and fog), just about an hour away in Napa, the weather couldn’t be more different.

Enjoy sunny days, comfortable nights, and just about all the wine you can drink. Napa boasts hundreds of wineries and plenty of highly-rated restaurants to pick from. Take a trip to Sonoma as well for even more wineries and a more low-key wine tasting experience.

  1. Outer Banks

The Outer Banks are a series of barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina. They are connected to the mainland via a bridge and lie between the mainland and the Atlantic Ocean. Choose one of the many different islands, including Currituck Banks, Bodie Island, Ocracoke Island, Roanoke Island, Hatteras Island, Core Banks, or Bogue Banks.

If you’re looking for a low-key beach vacation great for families, the Outer Banks is it. Think mini-golf, night walks on the beach, low country boils, and all the seafood you can handle.

  1. Europe

If you’re thinking of more on-the-go summer vacation, how about Europe? Start in Paris and work your way through France and Spain. Or head to the UK and visit Great Britain, Wales, and Ireland. Whether you want to be a tourist, lay on the beach, go wine tasting, or take a cruise, Europe has got you covered.

  1. Australia

If you’re feeling particularly adventurous this summer and are ready to go down under, Australia has so many things to offer. Remember that the southern hemisphere has seasons opposite the US, so when it’s summer here, it’s winter there. Whether you’re sailing Whitsundays to the Great Barrier Reef, in Sydney harbor seeing the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, or in the red center visiting Uluru, it’s a big county with plenty to see and do.

  1. Bermuda

Bermuda is a tiny island, consisting of only 21 square miles. Located 650 miles east of North Carolina, Bermuda offers coral reef diving, biking, and pink sand beaches. It’s a British territory, but its proximity to the US results in a unique blend of British and American influences.

What Will Be Your Summer Getaway Destination?

Each of these getaway destinations offers something unique. From pink sand beaches to wine tasting to koalas and kangaroos, there are so many choices for your summer trip this year. Whatever you choose, make the best of your time there, and don’t be afraid to be a tourist and check out all of the popular tourist destinations once you get there.
