‘And Just Like That’ Ends: Sarah Jessica Parker Says Goodbye

And Just Like That final season

After more than 25 years, the Sex and the City universe is officially coming to a close. Sarah Jessica Parker, who played the iconic Carrie Bradshaw, has announced that the third season of the spinoff And Just Like That… will be the last.

The showrunner, Michael Patrick King, confirmed the news in a heartfelt message on social media, marking the end of an era for the beloved franchise.

The Decision to End the Series

On Friday, showrunner, writer, and director Michael Patrick King revealed that the final chapter of And Just Like That… will conclude with Season 3. In a statement shared on the show’s official Instagram page, King wrote, “While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop.”

The decision was made collaboratively between King, Sarah Jessica Parker, HBO CEO Casey Bloys, and Sarah Aubrey, HBO’s Head of Original Programming. HBO and HBO Max are part of Warner Bros. Discovery, the same parent company as CNN.

King added that the team delayed announcing the end so viewers could enjoy Season 3 without being overshadowed by the word final.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Emotional Tribute to Carrie Bradshaw

Sarah Jessica Parker shared her own goodbye in a touching social media post, celebrating the character she’s embodied since 1998. “Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years,” she wrote. “I think I have loved her most of all.”

Her post reflected on the ups and downs of playing Carrie—a character who was adored, criticized, and rooted for by millions of fans around the world. She also praised the team of 380 people involved in the show, calling the experience “the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent.”

A Look Back at the Sex and the City Legacy

The Sex and the City journey began on HBO in 1998 and quickly became a pop culture phenomenon. The original series ran for six seasons, ending in 2004, and won multiple Emmy Awards. It was followed by two feature films in 2008 and 2010.

The spinoff series And Just Like That… premiered in 2021, bringing back three of the four original main characters: Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis). Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha, did not return for the full series but made a brief cameo in Season 2.

The show continued to explore the lives of the women as they navigated love, grief, and friendship in their 50s in New York City. New characters like Seema (Sarita Choudhury) and LTW (Ari Nicole Parker) were introduced and embraced by fans.

What’s Left of the Final Season?

And Just Like That… Season 3 will conclude with a two-part finale released over the next two Thursdays on Max. The show’s creators have not hinted at any spinoffs or further extensions of the series, making this the final goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw and her world.

While there is some speculation about whether any of the characters could reappear in new projects, for now, fans are preparing for an emotional farewell.

A Farewell to the Fashion, Friendships, and Stories

Parker’s farewell post included a carousel of nostalgic images from the franchise, including photos of beloved characters like:

  • Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon)
  • Charlotte York (Kristin Davis)
  • Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall)
  • Mr. Big (Chris Noth)
  • Aidan Shaw (John Corbett)
  • Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson)

She also highlighted the newest cast members and thanked the fans for their unwavering support over the years.

What Made Sex and the City So Iconic?

Over the decades, Sex and the City wasn’t just a TV show—it was a movement. It reshaped the portrayal of women’s friendships, independence, and sexuality on television. Carrie’s narration, iconic fashion, New York as the fifth character, and the candid exploration of adult relationships made it both revolutionary and relatable.

The original series is often credited with paving the way for modern female-led shows like Girls, Insecure, and The Bold Type.

What Comes Next?

While there are no current plans for more spinoffs or movies, both Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael Patrick King have left the door open for creative opportunities in the future. However, as of now, this is the official end of Carrie Bradshaw’s story.

Where to Watch

The final two episodes of And Just Like That… Season 3 will air on Max over the next two Thursdays. Fans can also stream all previous episodes of the original Sex and the City series, the two feature films, and the current spinoff on the same platform.

This emotional end marks the closing of a chapter that spanned generations. Whether you loved Carrie Bradshaw’s musings or debated her choices, there’s no denying the impact she—and Sex and the City—had on pop culture.
