An expert panel of the Indian government has approved the urgent use of the novel Coronavirus vaccine made by Oxford University in the UK and Swedish-British multinational pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.
Experts from the Central Drug Standards Control Organization of India approved the vaccine at a meeting in Oxford on Friday, Reuters reports citing two sources who are aware of the issue.
India wants to start a vaccine program soon, a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Reuters, likely on Wednesday.
A representative of the Central Drug Standard Control Organization of India did not comment when asked about this, the report said.
The UK approved the use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Coronavirus vaccine on December 30 as the first country in the world. The vaccine was later approved in Argentina.
Apart from the Oxford vaccine, the experts are considering the urgent use of the vaccine made by American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and German biotech company BioNTech.
