Canadian health regulators have approved the use of Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine. The approval came on Wednesday, a day after Pfizer-BioNTech launched its vaccination program in the UK, BBC reports.

Health Canada, the Canadian health regulatory agency, said the use of Covid-19 vaccines, manufactured by Pfizer in the United States and BioNTech in Germany, has been approved. The vaccine has already been introduced in the UK and is expected to be approved in Bahrain and will be approved in the U.S. soon.

The Canadian Department of Health said that as a condition of approval, manufacturers must continue to provide information about the safety, effectiveness, and quality of vaccines.

Canada will take 249,000 doses of vaccine this month and Canadian officials expect to implement them within a few days.

The UK, as the first country in the world, began applying the vaccines of Pfizer and Biotech on Tuesday.

Also, U.S. regulators on Tuesday released their first scientific assessment of Pfizer’s covid-19 vaccine and confirmed that it would provide better protection against the corona.

Canada says the Pfizer vaccine is for use for those 16 years and older. However, Pfizer-BioNTech is continuing more clinical trials for children of all ages and this may change.

Canada recently amended its agreement with Pfizer to supply 249,000 doses this month. This means that about 1,24,500 Canadians at the highest risk will first receive the vaccine. Because after a few weeks, it’ll take another dose.

Pfizer and Biotech said it will supply at least 20 million doses in Canada by 2021.

Canada has contacted six other companies about the vaccine and is currently reviewing three vaccines, including modern eras. Canadian health officials say that the modern vaccine may be approved soon.
