Anne Hathaway Celebrates Five Years of Sobriety

Anne hathaway sobriety journey

In a recent interview with The New York Times, acclaimed actress Anne Hathaway candidly discussed her personal journey to sobriety, revealing that she has been alcohol-free for over five years.

Hathaway’s decision to quit drinking stemmed from a desire to be fully present for her young son, whom she shares with her husband, Adam Shulman. She first opened up about her sobriety during an appearance on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2018, explaining that she had lost interest in drinking after a particularly unpleasant hangover experience.

Now, at the age of 40, Hathaway reflects on her sobriety as a significant milestone, stating, “There are so many other things I identify as milestones. I don’t normally talk about it, but I am over five years sober. That feels like a milestone to me. Forty feels like a gift.”

Hathaway’s decision to prioritize her well-being and embrace a healthier lifestyle is commendable, especially in an industry where substance abuse is often prevalent. Her candor about her sobriety journey may inspire others struggling with similar issues to seek help and make positive changes.

In the wide-ranging interview, Hathaway also teased the possibility of a third installment in the beloved “The Princess Diaries” franchise. When asked if anything was “cooking with a Princess Diaries 3,” she simply responded, “Yep.” This revelation contradicts her previous statements, suggesting that the movies were in her past and a third installment was not an option.

The prospect of a new installment will undoubtedly excite fans of the renowned film series, which tells the tale of a young woman who discovers she is a princess. The first two movies, released in 2001 and 2004, respectively, were critical and commercial successes, cementing Hathaway’s status as a talented and versatile actress.

In addition to the potential “Princess Diaries” revival, Hathaway has a new movie, “The Idea of You,” premiering on Prime Video on May 2. Hathaway plays Solène, a divorced mother who unintentionally falls in love with Nicholas Galitzine’s portrayal of a much younger and more well-known man, in the Michael Showalter-directed movie that is based on Robinne Lee’s romance novel.

As Hathaway continues to navigate her personal and professional life, her openness about her sobriety journey and her commitment to prioritizing her well-being serve as an inspiration to many. Her candid discussions contribute to destigmatizing mental health and substance abuse issues, encouraging others to seek help and embrace healthier lifestyles.
