With both protections enabled, private conversations become far more difficult for unauthorized eyes to access.
The recently added Chat Lock tool lets users password protect personal chats using fingerprint ID, face ID, PINs or custom passwords. Secret Code takes privacy up another notch by obscuring previews and notifications for locked chats until an additional user-created code is entered.
This code word or phrase unlocks hidden conversations, acting as a second gate after inputting your standard Chat Lock credential. It provides two-factor authentication to verify identity. The secret code can incorporate both words and emojis to make it more secure and memorable.
For example, if you lock a chat with a fingerprint then set the Secret Code as your child’s birthday, the messages would only appear after a successful fingerprint scan and inputting the unique date. Even if someone guesses the chat lock password, they can’t access without also entering your custom Secret Code in the search bar.
WhatApp has faced criticism for security and data sharing policies in the past. However, recent feature additions like encrypted backups and robust chat locks now position the Meta-owned company as a leader in privacy protections compared to other messaging apps.
