Players from Manchester City, PSG, and Bayern Munich have all secured spots in the top 10 goalscorers chart for the calendar year of 2023 in world football.
As we approach the end of the year, the competition for the top spots in the goalscoring charts is intense. Some familiar faces have made their way onto this list.
We have calculated the total number of goals scored in world football in 2023, including both club and international goals. As a result, we have created a list of the top 10 highest-scoring players.
1. Erling Haaland – 49 Goals
The Norwegian robot Erling Haaland achieved remarkable goalscoring feats in his first season in the Premier League, while also playing a crucial part in a memorable treble-winning season.
Haaland is an exceptional goalscorer, with very few weaknesses in that aspect of his game. The Man City forward has been in incredible form this year, already netting an impressive 49 goals and counting. This tally has him currently tied for the top spot with Kane.
1. Harry Kane – 49 Goals
It was clear that Kane would be leaving Tottenham this summer, and ever since he joined Bayern Munich, the England captain has not regretted his decision. The 30-year-old has wasted no time in making an impact, already netting 22 goals for the German club.
In addition to his impressive performance for his club, Harry Kane consistently performs well for his national team. In 2023, he scored a total of 49 goals, with 9 of them being for England and the remaining 40 for a combination of Tottenham and Bayern Munich. He has been performing exceptionally well at both clubs.
3. Cristiano Ronaldo – 48 Goals
Playing in Saudi Arabia now, it’s remarkable that Cristiano Ronaldo, at 38 years old, is still second in terms of goals scored in 2023. What’s even more remarkable is that he was leading until recently.
Even as most footballers enter their late thirties, CR7 continues to display an insatiable hunger for the game. He takes exceptional care of his body, surpassing all others in the sport, which explains why he has been able to maintain his performance over a long period. At times, it’s important to pause and appreciate exceptional achievements.
4. Kylian Mbappe – 47 Goals
Mbappe has become the focal point of PSG since the departures of Lionel Messi and Neymar. He is now the main star in the French capital. Undoubtedly one of the most exceptional players currently, the 24-year-old has impressively netted 47 goals in 2023, while also contributing numerous assists.

Mbappe has been dominating the Ligue 1 Golden Boots, winning five in a row and showing no signs of slowing down as he aims for his sixth. When he’s performing at his peak, few defenders can even come close to stopping him.
5. Barnabas Varga – 38 Goals
Before the previous season, Varga’s goal tally had never exceeded 15 in a single season. Nevertheless, the Hungarian forward has been exceptionally productive throughout 2023.
Varga was highly impressed with Paks’ performance last season, which ultimately led to him securing a move to Hungarian champions Ferencvarosi TC. His impressive form during that period played a significant role in this opportunity. Verga has scored an impressive 38 goals in 2023, putting him just a few goals shy of claiming the top spot.
6. Santiago Gimenez – 37 Goals
Ever since joining Feyenoord in the summer of 2022, Gimenez has been in outstanding form, consistently finding the back of the net. Recently, there has been speculation about his potential transfer to top clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea, which can be attributed to his remarkable goal-scoring record.
Gimenez has scored a total of 37 goals this year, with 35 of them coming from his performances at the club level and the remaining two goals being scored while representing Mexico. It’s only a matter of time before he secures a major career opportunity.
7. Denis Bouanga – 36 Goals
LAFC has advanced to the MLS Western Conference final, with Bouanga’s goals playing a significant role in their success. This year, the former Saint-Etienne winger has been absolutely unstoppable in MLS, netting an impressive 36 goals across all competitions.
It wouldn’t be surprising if he ends up making a significant impact in the final as well.

8. German Cano – 35 Goals
Despite the majority of top goalscorers in 2023 being players currently competing in Europe, Cano, the forward for Fluminense, successfully bucks this trend.
The seasoned 35-year-old has netted more than 280 career goals and there’s no indication of him losing momentum anytime soon. Cano achieved the pinnacle of his career when he emerged victorious in the Copa Libertadores alongside Fluminense. Please contact him in Argentina.
8. Lautaro Martinez – 35 Goals
Another Argentine player, Martinez from Inter Milan, has been on fire this year, scoring an impressive 35 goals. The 26-year-old has been performing exceptionally well this year and is currently leading the race for the Serie A Golden Boot with an impressive tally of 13 goals this season.
8. Mauro Icardi – 35 Goals
Witnessing Icardi’s resurgence in Turkish football has been truly delightful. After a challenging period with PSG, the Argentine forward has shown remarkable improvement since joining Galatasaray.
In contrast to many other forwards on this list, Icardi has scored all 35 of his goals in 2023 at the club level. Unfortunately, he doesn’t receive many opportunities to showcase his skills with the Argentine national team nowadays. Despite that, he appears to be thoroughly enjoying his time in Turkey at the moment.
