New Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino Reveals Plan to Build “Twitter 2.0”

Listen to the Podcast:

On Saturday, Linda Yaccarino, recently appointed CEO of Twitter, said that owner Elon Musk’s plans for a better future have inspired her and that she is excited to help change the social media platform.

In her first public speech since the news came out on Thursday, she said that she was in talks to be the next CEO of Twitter. Musk, who has been CEO of Twitter since he bought it for $44 billion last October, told the world about her new job on Friday.

“Musk’s idea for a better future has been an inspiration to me for a long time. I’m excited to help Twitter realize this goal and change this business with you!” Linda Yaccarino sent a tweet.

“I see that I have some new fans… I’m not as active on this site as @elonmusk (yet! ), but I care just as much about its future. Your opinion is IMPORTANT for that future. I’ll be there for everything. Let’s keep talking and work together to build Twitter 2.0!” she added.

As the head of advertising for Comcast Corp’s NBCUniversal, Yaccarino spent several years modernizing the company’s advertising business. She said she is dedicated to Twitter’s future and that user feedback is important for building Twitter 2.0.

Yaccarino will be in charge of a social media platform struggling to turn around a drop in ad income and is in debt.

Since Musk bought Twitter, advertisers have stopped using it because they fear their ads will appear next to inappropriate material. The company has lost nearly 80% of its staff since Musk bought it. Musk said earlier this year that Twitter’s ad income had dropped significantly.

Musk said Yaccarino would help build an “everything app,” which he has said before could offer services like peer-to-peer payments. However, his choice of an advertising pro showed that digital ads would continue to be a key part of the business.

Musk has said for a long time that he wants to find a new CEO for Twitter.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc, a company that makes electric cars, said on Friday that putting Yaccarino in charge of Twitter will give him more time to work on Tesla.
