Legendary Singer Lata Mangeshkar Passes Away at 92
Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary vocalist, died on Sunday at the age of 92 in Mumbai after suffering from multi-organ failure the night before. A senior doctor treating her at the Breach Candi Hospital claimed she was in the critical care unit (ICU) of Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital earlier in the day, according to Dr. Pratit Samdani, who is treating her there.
The renowned singer died at 8.12 a.m., according to hospital officials. Her body is currently being transported to Shivaji Park, where it will be maintained for public homage.
“She arrived and got admitted as a Covid patient,” N Santhanam, chief executive officer of Breach Candy Hospital, said. Covid was treated, but she died as a result of post-Covid complications.”
After being diagnosed with pneumonia and testing positive for the coronavirus disease in January, the Bharat Ratna awardee was admitted to the hospital. She had been on a ventilator for weeks before being taken off on January 28, when she began to show signs of improvement. Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena MP, was one of the first to post the news on social media. “The age is over,” he remarked in Marathi on Twitter.
Her health deteriorated again on Saturday, and she was placed back on the ventilator. Late Saturday night, her sister Asha Bhosle and actor Shraddha Kapoor paid a visit to the hospital to see the ill singer.
