A breathtaking 518 million Indian viewers tuned into the 48-day event on their television sets. Meanwhile, Disney’s streaming service, Hotstar, saw a massive peak concurrent viewership of 59 million during the gripping tournament.
The much-awaited finals face-off between rivals India and Australia drew a peak concurrent viewership of an astonishing 130 million on both TV and digital mediums. This figure handily surpassed the previous tournament record high of 80 million set during India’s semi-final contest against New Zealand earlier in the tournament.
Per broadcast monitoring agency BARC, over 300 million viewers watched the thrilling finals on television alone. As per Disney executive Sanjog Gupta, this cements the 2023 Cricket World Cup finals as the most viewed televised event ever in Indian broadcasting history.
