The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, is getting ready for a quick but action-packed two days in India.
Talks with prominent corporate people, entrepreneurs from up-and-coming firms, and government representatives are all on his schedule.
His meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the morning of April 22 will undoubtedly be a high point of his journey. It is anticipated that he will share Tesla’s plans for the Indian market.
As per the report, Musk’s visit to India is scheduled to commence on April 21. During the visit, Musk is expected to make several significant announcements, such as the launch of the Starlink service and investment plans of approximately $2 billion to $3 billion in the country.
Musk and Modi last crossed paths during the Indian prime minister’s visit to the US in June last year. Since then, the billionaire has been actively advocating for a decrease in import duties on electric vehicles. This would enable Tesla to commence the sale of its EVs in the country.
Last month, the Indian government made a significant announcement regarding their new EV policy. They have decided to reduce import taxes on certain models from a staggering 100% to a much more reasonable 15%.
However, there is a condition attached to this tax reduction. In order to qualify, the manufacturer must commit to investing a substantial amount of $500 million or more and establish a factory within the country.
