Dwayne Johnson to Reprise Role as Hobbs in ‘Fast & Furious’ Franchise
It has been confirmed that Dwayne Johnson will rejoin the “Fast & Furious” series.
On Thursday, Johnson revealed the news on social media, stating that he is “one hundred percent confirming” that his character Luke Hobbs will be returning to the fray. Johnson also praised viewers for their enthusiasm and support for his unexpected cameo in “Fast X,” which came out in May.
The Rock, who plays the role of The Rock, also hinted that Hobbs and Dante, played by Jason Momoa, might interact more in the future.
He referred to his past as a professional wrestler, saying, “If you thought that ‘The Rock’ versus ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin headlining three Wrestle Manias was earth-shattering, then, wait till you see Dante and Hobbs fight.
Johnson didn’t make it clear what the upcoming “Fast” movie was, but according to The Wrap, a Hobbs movie without a title is in development at Universal Pictures and will serve as a “bridge” between “Fast X” and “Fast X: Part II,” as opposed to Johnson returning in a “Hobbs & Shaw” sequel movie (2019’s “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”
The “Black Adam” actor made his “Fast Five” debut in 2011 as Hobbs, and he then starred in five other installments of the franchise.
After his final appearance in the 2019 “Hobbs & Shaw” spinoff film and despite a public appeal from mainstay “Fast & Furious” star Vin Diesel to return, Johnson informed CNN in 2021 that he “would not be returning to the franchise.”
In his announcement on Thursday, Johnson addressed his relationship with “Pitch Black” star Diesel, saying that despite their past disagreements, “we’ve been like brothers for years” and that they are leading with the idea of “resolve” as they look toward the future of “bigger plans are the bigger build outs.”
In light of everything, he declared, “It’s really not a hard decision to make: It’s a yes.”
