On Wednesday, Baltimore police announced the discovery of two bodies following the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday morning.
According to authorities, a group of workers were in the process of repairing potholes on the bridge when an unfortunate incident occurred. The cargo ship Dali experienced a power failure and collided with the bridge, resulting in its collapse during the early hours of Tuesday morning. Two workers were successfully rescued.
During a press conference held in Baltimore on Wednesday evening, state officials announced a shift in focus from recovery to cleanup. The main objective now is to remove debris that is hindering divers from reaching the area where more victims are suspected to be located. After the cleanup is finished, the search for bodies will continue.
According to Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, the crash seemed to be an unintentional incident, as there is no substantial evidence to suggest it was a terrorist attack.
The 1.6-mile bridge, named after the poet who wrote “The Star-Spangled Banner,” gracefully extends over a bustling East Coast shipping route. Additionally, it serves as the gateway to the largest port in the U.S. for specialized cargo such as trucks, tractors, and trailers.
