Captain Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the remainder of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 due to an untimely finger injury, dealing a huge setback to Bangladesh’s chances in their crucial upcoming match against Australia.

Batting Heroics Despite Severe Pain for Committed Captain

The veteran all-rounder suffered the injury early while batting against Sri Lanka last Sunday, November 6th. Showing great commitment to the team, Shakib bravely continued his innings despite being in obvious discomfort after being struck on his left index finger. With the help of painkillers and supportive taping, he battled through the pain to play a fantastic match-winning knock of 82 runs off just 65 balls. 

Prior to his batting heroics, Shakib had also contributed with the ball, claiming 2 wickets for 57 runs against the Lankans. His courageous performance earned him the Player of the Match award, though it came at a great physical cost. 

Prompt Diagnosis Reveals Serious Finger Fracture 

After the match ended, Shakib immediately underwent an X-ray which revealed a fractured PIP joint on his left index finger. The team physio regretfully estimated that the brave captain would require 3-4 weeks of recovery time, ending his participation in the rest of the World Cup.

Shakib had been the beating heart of the Bangladesh squad, and his absence will leave an enormous hole in the lineup as they face a do-or-die match against Australia this Friday.
