What to Expect from the New Flash Movie?

New Flash Movie

The Scarlet Speedster is one of DC’s most popular characters, and this will be the first time he stars in his own film. Barry Allen has been on our screens for nearly a decade, and as Grant Gustin walks down from the role, Ezra Miller will carry on the legacy of the fastest man alive.

Regarding The Flash, there has been considerable controversy surrounding the endeavor. In the past year, the film has gone through four directors, undergone multiple script rewrites, and its protagonist has encountered legal issues. There are many questions encircling The Flash, and we will answer each and every one. Here’s everything you need to know about The Flash.

The Flash Story Details

The Flash is inspired by the 2011 DC Comics crossover event Flashpoint, in which Barry Allen travels through time to prevent the murder of his mother at the hands of Reverse Flash, only to discover himself in an alternate universe devoid of metahumans. The multiverse plotline of The Flash will be used to explain Michael Keaton’s return as Bruce Wayne and the involvement of two incarnations of Barry Allen. In this alternate universe, it appears that Kara Zor-El was sent to Earth instead of Kal-El, a.k.a. Superman, and Supergirl appears to be a prisoner who is feared rather than idolized, which is consistent with the comic book narrative.

The Flash’s multiverse-spanning plot makes it the ideal vehicle to reset the DC Universe, allowing James Gunn and Peter Safran to reimagine some of DC’s most recognizable characters. Ezra Miller’s future in the franchise is still unknown, but The Flash might set up a hypothetical sequel for the Scarlet Speedster that would fit with James Gunn’s new DCU approach. When Barry Allen ultimately returns from the strange new reality, it is anticipated that The Flash will make significant changes to the main DCU continuity.

Barry Allen’s Death and the Crisis on Infinite Earths

The Flash has come a long way. Every incarnation, from Jay Garrick to Barry Allen, each have had close run-ins with danger. This Flash infographic helps highlight some of Flash’s enemies, but one story, in particular, stands out from the rest— the crisis on Infinite Earths. In the story, Barry Allen sacrificed his life to stop the villainous Anti-Monitor from consuming all of reality and give his fellow heroes a fighting chance. With a devastating wave of pure antimatter, the omnipotent antagonist was able to consume all but five Earths in the Multiverse. The Flash broke free and destroyed the antimatter cannon by racing quickly around it, dismantling it, but ultimately being consumed himself by the Speed Force in the desperate effort. This heroic sacrifice gave the protagonists the time they needed to defeat the Anti-Monitor for good, resulting in the merging of the remaining Earths.

When does The Flash Come Out?

The Flash will be released on June 16, 2023, in theatres. The film will have its world premiere at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on April 25. Warner Bros. moved the release date multiple times due to the pandemic, lack of a director, and Miller’s legal troubles.

The Flash Movie Cast

The Flash stars Ezra Miller as two versions of Barry Allen, along with numerous other recurring DC characters. The Flash introduces Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl, in lieu of Henry Cavill’s Superman. Kiersey Clemons returns as Iris West in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Ben Affleck returns as the DCEU’s Dark Knight, and Michael Keaton reprises his role as Batman from Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns in The Flash. Maribel Verd will play Nora Allen, the mother of Barry Allen, and Ron Livingston will replace Billy Crudup as Henry Allen.

Michael Shannon and Antje Traue reprise their roles as General Zod and Faora-Ul from Man of Steel. Temuera Morrison, who portrays Thomas Curry, Aquaman’s father, in Aquaman and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, is also anticipated to appear in The Flash. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Ruby Mancuso, and Luke Brandon Field have also been cast in unspecified roles on The Flash. It was also rumored that Gal Gadot could reprise her role as Diana Prince, a.k.a. Wonder Woman has appeared in previous DCEU films, but it is unknown if this will continue. Several other DC cameos by returning actors from DC’s film history are also anticipated.

The Flash‘s Plot

According to the DC FanDome 2021 trailer, it appears that The Flash is adapting the 2011 DC event series Flashpoint in a loose fashion. In that narrative, Barry Allen uses his super-speed abilities to travel back in time and prevent the murder of his mother when he was a child. When he returns to the present, however, he discovers significant changes. In the film adaptation, it appears that Barry will alter time and space to introduce Batman from the classic Tim Burton films starring Michael Keaton. Additionally, a new incarnation of Supergirl and at least one alternate Barry exist in this altered universe. In the film, Flash will also receive a new costume, replacing the one he wore in Justice League.

Is There a Trailer for The Flash?

In October 2021, the first footage of The Flash debuted at DC FanDome. The official trailer debuted at this year’s Super Bowl (12 February). The Super Bowl trailer, unlike the DC FanDome footage, revealed the existence of two Barrys, provided a closer look at Michael Keaton’s Batman, and teased the arrival of Supergirl.

Who is Directing The Flash?

The film is directed by Andy Muschietti, who previously worked on It and Mama. During his April 2023 appearance at CinemaCon, Muschietti praised Ezra Miller’s performance.

“They are an incredible actor,” he said. “I had the opportunity to collaborate with one of the finest actors I’ve ever worked with. They contribute emotion and humor. They wanted to perform all of the exploits, and I allowed them to.”

Is The Flash Connected to the Other DC Films?

The Flash movie is set in the DC Extended Universe. It is connected to the films Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Aquaman, Shazam, Birds of Prey, Black Adam, and The Suicide Squad. It has no connection to Batman or the Joker, as they exist in separate universes.

However, the DC Universe is entering a new era under the direction of James Gunn and Peter Safran, with many iconic characters, such as Superman and Batman, being recast with new actors. While this may be cause for concern, Gunn revealed how the new film will work into his DCU.

Ben Affleck co-starred in Justice League with Ezra Miller of The Flash. Affleck affirms the significant DCEU ties by describing a scene he filmed with another DC hero.

Conclusion

The Flash is a significant superhero character from DC Comics who has made a significant impact on the superhero genre and pop culture. The Flash is a speedster who gained his superhuman speed from a lightning bolt and a cocktail of electrified chemicals. Over the years, different versions of this character have emerged, and each one has brought new ideas to the superhero genre.
