Diego Maradona Laid to Rest as World Mourns Flawed Soccer Great

Legendary footballer Diego Maradona has been buried amid a global outpouring of grief from the streets of Buenos Aires to Naples in Italy, reports Reuters.

Maradona’s funeral was held in the presence of some family members and friends. The football magician was buried next to his parents on Thursday evening local time in Bella Vista, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

Maradona’s body was previously kept in the presidential office Casa Rosada. Thousands of his fans paid their last respects there. Maradona’s coffin was carrying the Argentine flag and a jersey with the number 10.

Outside the presidential office, a large number of people gathered to see Maradona’s coffin. The crowds paid their respects,  and many wept, blew kisses, and prayed as they filed past his coffin, according to a BBC report.

The rows of devotees are gradually increasing. The police had to be quick to handle them. Maradona fans were also seen getting involved in clashes with police in the city. Even the police fired rubber bullets and tear gas to control them. Finally, the authorities had to stop seeing Maradona’s coffin for the fans to maintain peace.

After his death, Maradona’s body was taken from his home in Tigre, Buenos Aires, to a morgue in San Fernando for an autopsy on Wednesday evening.

Maradona died at his home in Tigre, Argentina, on Wednesday after suffering from a heart attack. He was 60 years old.

Maradona had a successful brain surgery a few days ago. After being released from the hospital, the Argentine legend went to the treatment center to recover from excess alcohol addiction. Maradona then returned home. He died there.

Maradona led Argentina to win the World Cup in 1986. He was born on October 30, 1960, in Lanus, Buenos Aires province. He grew up in the southern city of Villa Fiorito. He was the first son of a parent after three daughters.

He was a young man with artistic football. He joined the Youth Team of Argentina at the age of 8. Since then, he didn’t have to look back.

The ‘God of Football’ was called up to the Argentine national team in 1977. After that, he participated in four World Cups for the country. Under his leadership, Argentina won their second World Cup in 1986. However, his first goal in the World Cup was the most infamous in the history of football. The second goal was not a problem. Maradona scored his second goal by passing five defenders from about 60 meters away. In 2002, FIFA.com voters selected the goal as the best goal of the century.

Maradona also made the final of the 1990 World Cup. But the Service has not touched the World Cup. The following year, he was banned from football for 15 months after being caught for cocaine in a drug test in Italy. Maradona did not return to the field and find a rhythm.

The legend finally put on his boots in 1997. At the end of his football career, he was named in coaching. But football-mad Maradona could not justify his name as a coach. The footballer has been controversial at times in his coaching career.

Moreover, he was appointed as the coach of the Argentina national team in November 2008. But the World Cup-winning star had to quit because of the poor performance of the team after the 2010 World Cup. The football legend was in-charge of the first-ever Argentina team, Himancia, in the last season.
