Heavy Rains Unleash Floods in Haiti, Leaving 15 Dead and 8 Missing

Authorities said Sunday that at least 15 people died and another 8 are missing after heavy rains caused flooding and floods across Haiti over the weekend.

According to Haiti’s Civil Protection Agency, about 13,400 people had to leave their homes because water destroyed hundreds of homes across the country and turned some streets into wild rivers of brown water.

The rains that hit Haiti on Saturday caused damage to more than 7,400 homes, and officials are still figuring out how bad the damage is.

The rains also did a lot of damage to crops in the middle part of Haiti at a time when hunger is getting worse.

Prime Minister Ariel Henry said that he was working with local and foreign groups to help people who were hurt by the floods.
