One of Tesla’s most noticeable products is its Supercharger charging network, which is one of the primary ways the manufacturer differentiates its goods while also making them easier to live with than competitors.
Tesla’s chargers, on the other hand, aren’t up to par with networks run by third parties, although that could change in the near future.
Tesla investor and regular Twitter contributor Sawyer Merritt stated that the firm is considering charging network speed upgrades, with ‘V3’ Supercharger rates increasing from 250kW to 324kW. Merritt also mentions that a V4 charging upgrade will be released soon, which would improve charging speeds even more.
Take the claims with a grain of salt because this isn’t official Tesla news, but it’s worth noting that Merritt has been correct in the past when it comes to Tesla news he’s tweeted out, which lends credence to his current tweets.
Tesla’s Supercharger network would be closer to other public chargers, which generally handle rates of up to 350kW, as a result of the speed increases. The voltage an EV can withstand is an important parameter, but as InsideEVs points out, Teslas are now only equipped with a 400V battery pack.

The news comes as a relief to Tesla customers. Despite having one of the most reliable and functional charging networks in the world, Tesla has yet to break the rapid charging code. According to the automaker’s website, a 15-minute charge can restore 200 miles of range, which is impressive by modern EV standards but pitiful when compared to gas station replenishment.
