Meta Introduces Vibes, an AI Video Platform for Social Sharing

Meta has unveiled Vibes, a brand-new feature within the Meta AI app and on meta.ai, designed to become a hub for AI-generated short videos. With this launch, the company is expanding its growing suite of artificial intelligence tools that aim to reshape how people create and consume digital content.

The announcement marks a significant milestone for Meta, showing how seriously it is investing in generative AI and how it hopes to integrate such technology into everyday social media use.

What Exactly Is “Vibes”?

At its core, Vibes is a centralized feed for AI videos. It works much like a creative marketplace where users can not only view synthetic content but also actively participate in producing and remixing it.

The feed pulls together videos generated by both creators and communities, while an underlying personalization algorithm ensures that users see content aligned with their preferences and habits. Over time, the feed learns what each person enjoys and tailors its suggestions — much like how TikTok’s “For You” page works, but with a twist: the focus here is synthetic, AI-generated creativity.

Meta describes the platform as a place to “find inspiration and experiment with Meta AI’s media tools,” effectively positioning Vibes as both a playground and a professional toolkit for creators.

Key Features and Capabilities

1. Create from Scratch

Users can type prompts or choose creative inputs to generate entirely new videos. This could be anything from surreal visuals to highly stylized artistic clips.

2. Remix Existing Videos

One of the standout features is the ability to remix videos discovered in the Vibes feed. Suppose a creator uploads an AI-generated video — another user can take it, change its style, add new elements, layer in music, or transform the visuals. This remix culture makes Vibes a collaborative ecosystem.

3. Style and Sound Customization

The platform includes options to tweak visual aesthetics, insert fresh imagery, or overlay music layers. Users can craft videos that align with their personal or brand identity, turning otherwise generic AI content into unique creations.

4. Seamless Sharing Across Meta Platforms

Perhaps the most strategic aspect is Vibes’ integration with Meta’s wider social network. Videos made in Vibes aren’t confined to the app; they can be posted directly in the Vibes feed, shared through direct messages, or cross-posted to Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories, and Reels. This allows AI-generated videos to travel across Meta’s social ecosystem with minimal friction.

5. Cross-Platform Discovery

Meta has also introduced a discovery layer: if you encounter a Meta AI video on Instagram, you can instantly access remixing tools by linking to the Meta AI app. This ensures that Vibes isn’t isolated but plugged into Meta’s global audience.

Who Powers Vibes?

For the initial release, Meta has partnered with Midjourney and Black Forest Labs — two established names in the AI image generation space. This partnership ensures that early users have access to high-quality generative models while Meta continues to refine and scale its in-house AI models.

According to Meta’s Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, the partnerships are temporary stepping stones as the company develops its own proprietary video generation technologies. This is consistent with Meta’s broader AI roadmap, where it wants to reduce dependence on third-party models and consolidate its Meta AI ecosystem.

Strategic AI Investment

The launch of Vibes is part of a larger restructuring effort within Meta’s artificial intelligence division. Earlier in 2025, the company announced the formation of Meta Superintelligence Labs, reorganizing its AI units into four specialized divisions:

  • Foundation Models
  • AI Research
  • Product Integration
  • Infrastructure

By creating these focused groups, Meta aims to accelerate both research and commercialization. Vibes is the first consumer-facing example of how this restructuring translates into new products.

It also comes at a time when Meta is competing against companies like OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic in a rapidly evolving AI race. Unlike its rivals, however, Meta is deeply tied to social platforms and user-generated content, giving it a unique opportunity to integrate generative AI directly into people’s digital social lives.

The Role of Vibes in Meta’s Ecosystem

Meta has made it clear that Vibes is not a standalone project. Instead, it sits within the broader Meta AI hub — which already includes support for AI glasses, photo editing, and video tools, along with the general-purpose Meta AI assistant.

This integration suggests that Meta envisions a seamless creative flow: from capturing moments with AR glasses, to editing them with AI, to generating new versions in Vibes, and finally sharing them across Facebook, Instagram, and beyond.

Early Reactions and Criticism

While the launch has generated excitement among tech enthusiasts and creators, it has also sparked criticism:

  • “AI slop” concern: Some commentators argue that the feed risks being filled with meaningless, low-quality content if not properly curated.
  • Authenticity issues: Critics worry that blurring the line between AI-generated and real footage could confuse audiences and raise trust problems.
  • Addiction risks: Others highlight how endless synthetic video feeds may increase screen-time addiction, raising ethical questions.

Nonetheless, Meta is openly soliciting user feedback to refine the platform, suggesting that Vibes will evolve significantly in the months to come.

Why Vibes Matters

The launch of Vibes signals more than just another app feature:

  • AI video is the next frontier: With TikTok dominating real video content, Meta is betting that synthetic video will be the next cultural wave.
  • A creator’s sandbox: Vibes empowers both amateurs and professionals to experiment without needing expensive equipment or technical skills.
  • Integration as a strength: Meta’s ability to connect Vibes content across Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger gives it a built-in distribution network that startups can’t easily match.
  • A test bed for Meta’s models: As Meta continues to refine its AI engines, Vibes provides real-world data and user behavior insights to improve those models.

Meta insists that Vibes is “just the beginning” of its work on AI video. With future iterations expected to include more advanced editing tools, improved realism, and possibly monetization options for creators, Vibes could become central to Meta’s vision of AI-powered creativity.

The company has also tied the project to its longer-term ambitions in augmented reality (AR) and the metaverse. If successful, Vibes could become the creative backbone of Meta’s ecosystem, linking today’s social networks with tomorrow’s immersive worlds.
