Barcelona had a field day against Valencia, thanks to the one and only Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker was on fire, scoring a hat-trick in the second half to secure a 4-2 victory for the Catalan giants.
Robert Lewandowski proved once again why he’s one of the best strikers in the world, single-handedly leading Barcelona to victory against Valencia. It may not be enough to win them the La Liga title this year, but it’s still a performance that’ll go down in the history books.
Lewandowski Hat-trick Leads Barcelona to Victory
The game started off with a bang when Fermin Lopez put Barcelona in the lead. It looked like the hosts, who are pretty much out of the running for the La Liga title despite this win, were going to have an easy time of it.
However, Valencia wasn’t about to go down without a fight. Hudo Duro quickly equalized, and then Pepelu gave them the lead from the penalty spot. At the time, things looked pretty dicey for Barcelona.
But then a game-changing moment happened just before halftime. Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili was shown a red card, leaving his team with ten men for the rest of the match. And who do you think took full advantage of that? Robert Lewandowski, a 35-year-old goal machine, is none other than himself.
In the second half, Lewandowski went on a scoring spree. He started off by heading in the equalizer, then nodded in a rebound to give Barcelona the lead. And just when you thought he was done, he scored his third goal from a free kick in added time.
Despite the impressive win, Barcelona is still sitting in second place in La Liga, a whopping 11 points behind their arch-rivals, Real Madrid. With only five games left to play, it looks like the title is pretty much out of reach for them this season.
As for Valencia, they’re holding steady in eighth place, but they’ve got their work cut out for them if they want to qualify for European competitions next season. They’re currently four points behind sixth-place Real Sociedad, so every game from here on out is crucial.
