Kairvi Tijoriwala Wants Health Law to Stop Being a Black Box

Kairvi Tijoriwala

Health insurance law is one of those fields most people are content to never understand. The documents are dense, the stakes stay quiet until they are not, and the people who do the work rarely explain it. Kairvi Tijoriwala is trying to change that, and she is doing it from several directions at once.

Kairvi is a healthcare regulatory attorney at one of the country’s largest health insurers. For the last few years she has worked at the point where state regulation becomes real coverage. She also sits on the committees and editorial boards that decide how her profession talks about itself. And in her own time, she explains the whole thing to strangers on the internet. The through line is communication, in a corner of law that usually avoids it.

The Rules Nobody Reads

Her core work is unglamorous and consequential in equal measure. When a state passes a new health insurance mandate, Kairvi is one of the people who turns that statute into something a large insurer can actually follow. She serves as one of the legal point of contact for state regulators, implements newly enacted mandates, and reviews the regulatory filings submitted to state agencies.

“Most people never think about the legal work behind their health coverage, and that is the point,” she says. “When the rules are implemented correctly, the system works the way it should and members never have to notice.”

The portfolio runs the full length of a new mandate. She advises medical directors, product teams, and communications staff on how to put fresh laws into practice, and she reviews the customer and provider facing material that describes coverage, checking that it matches what the law allows. It is work that sits behind the plans a great many people rely on, most of whom will never learn her name.

A Seat at the Editorial Table

What sets Kairvi apart is where she spends her energy outside billable hours. She sits on the Content and Editorial Board of TYL, the flagship publication of the ABA Young Lawyers Division, and she serves on the 2026 Communications and Publications Committee of the IAHA. Both roles put her in the same chair: helping decide how a professional field explains itself to its own members.

That is a deliberate pattern. Plenty of lawyers publish. Fewer take on the editorial work of shaping what gets said and how it is framed. For someone whose day job is translating regulation into plain guidance, a move onto editorial boards is less a detour than an extension of the same instinct.

From Tax to Coverage

Kairvi did not arrive in health law by the usual door. She started as a Tax Consultant at a Big Four accounting firm, advising on international mergers and corporate restructurings. She then joined one of the world’s largest law firms, working on acquisitions, joint ventures, and take private transactions. Only later did she move in house into her current regulatory role.

Tax, transactions, regulation: three separate disciplines, each demanding a different kind of thinking. The unusual sequence gave her a wide field of view on how organizations behave when the law applies pressure. It is the foundation under everything else she does.

Office Hours on TikTok

Then there is the part of Kairvi’s work that looks nothing like a law firm. On Instagram and TikTok she creates content for law students and attorneys early in their careers, aimed especially at people arriving from unconventional backgrounds like her own.

The message tracks with the rest of her career: there is no single correct route into the profession, and a winding path can be an asset. Legal careers are famously hard to decode from the outside, and she uses social media to hand younger lawyers the map most people have to draw for themselves. It is the public version of what she does privately for colleagues, which is take something opaque and make it usable.

Why It Adds Up

The recognition is following the work. Kairvi is under consideration for Law Bulletin Media 40 Under Forty and Bloomberg Law 40 Under 40, among other emerging leader honors, and she has served as a judge for the ABA Client Counseling Competition. Set alongside her editorial roles and her social media teaching, the picture is of a lawyer who treats communication as part of the job rather than a distraction from it.

That is the through line worth watching. In a field built on complexity, Kairvi Tijoriwala is betting that clarity is a professional skill, and the profession is starting to reward the bet.
