Despite being months out from release, Apple’s next iPhone 14 series handsets have been making the rounds for the previous few months. There have been various reports concerning the device’s enhanced features.
The iPhone 14 versions are also expected to drop the nano-SIM card slot in favor of eSIM functionality. Now, an analyst claims that this could be the case, and that the Cupertino-based tech giant will release eSIM-only iPhone models this year.
According to Emma Mohr-McClune, a Technology Service Director at GlobalData, the Apple iPhone 14 series may only support eSIM without a nano-SIM card slot (via iMore). However, according to Mohr-McClune, the company may offer a SIM card slot model for carriers that do not yet enable eSIM capability.
The corporation has been gradually adding eSIM support to its handsets. With the launch of the iPhone XS and XS Max, it added support for eSIM, and with the newest iPhone 13 models, it added support for twin eSIMs.
According to recent reports, Apple is working on a transition, with some US carriers planning to offer select iPhone 13 models without a nano-SIM card in the retail box starting in Q2 2022. If the product is purchased through Apple Store or Apple.com, the corporation is already selling iPhone 13 models without a nano-SIM in the box.
If claims of eSIM-only models for Apple’s forthcoming handsets are accurate, the business must be testing the waters, and expect the company to fully eliminate physical SIM cards for new iPhone generations.
