The IQAir World Air Quality study for 2021 is the first major worldwide air quality report based on new WHO PM2.5 air quality recommendations.
According to a press statement issued on Tuesday, the new recommendations were established in September 2021 and reduced previous annual PM2.5 guideline values from 10 g/m3 to 5 g/m3.
PM2.5, or fine particle pollution, is usually regarded as the most dangerous and well-studied air pollutant and has been linked to health problems such as asthma, stroke, heart disease, and lung illness. Every year, PM2.5 causes millions of premature deaths.
Bangladesh, Chad, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and India are the top five most polluted nations in 2021, according to the research.
‘According to the newest World Health Organization air quality recommendations, no major city or nation is delivering safe and healthy air to its residents,’ says the report. IQAir’s CEO, Frank Hammes, stated.
