In a stunt that went wrong in the middle of the game, Conor McGregor knocked out the Miami Heat mascot.
Burnie, or rather the person who wears Burnie’s costume, went to the hospital for a short time on Friday night after McGregor hit him twice during a break in the third quarter of Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets.
The Heat said on Saturday that the worker, who was not named, was taking painkillers and resting at home.
McGregor was there as a way to promote a pain-relief spray, and many people in the Miami crowd booed him even before the stunt began.
A robe resembling what a fighter would put on before entering the ring for a fight was worn by the flaming mascot, along with huge boxing gloves. After knocking Burnie to the ground with a left hook blow, McGregor punched the mascot once more.
When Burnie was being carried off the field by several members of the Heat’s in-game advertising squad, McGregor attempted to “spray” the mascot with the painkiller.
Since suffering a left leg injury in a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021, McGregor hasn’t competed. He last achieved success in January 2020.
