Check Out These 9 Award Winning Novels That You Should Read

Award Winning Novels

Listen to the Podcast:

Something stands out about a book that got an award. It makes you wonder, “Why did it win the award?” You can find out best by reading the book. So, we made a list of 9 Award Winning Novels that you should read.

Before we start this article, I want to say that I like looking at different lists to find good books to read, but in the end, it all comes down to whether or not the book sounds interesting. Everyone has read a famous book that wasn’t as good as everyone said it would be.

The thing that makes award-winning books different is that they are generally chosen by a group. Because of this, I’ve found some great books, which is why I think award-winning books should be read. The whole list is shown below.

9 Award-Winning Novels That You Should Read

  • The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich – Pulitzer Prize for Fiction
  • The Promise by Damon Galgut – Man Booker Prize
  • Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell – National Book Critics Circle Award
  • Harrow by Joy Williams – Kirkus Prize
  • Further News of Defeat by Michael X. Wang – PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction
  • Deacon King Kong by James McBride – Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction
  • At Night All Blood is Black by David Diop, tr. by Anna Moschovakis – Los Angeles Times
  • Book Prize, Man Booker International Prize
  • Network Effect by Martha Wells – Hugo Award, Nebula Award
  • The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones – Bram Stoker Award

Award Winning Novels

In 2021, all nine of these books won awards. Some of them had won prizes, and others had just gotten the award. You may have noticed that some books have won more than one award.

The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich is the first book on the list. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, which is a big deal. That is one of the most sought-after prizes. The best book has to be about “dealing with American life.”

Deacon King Kong by James McBride is one of the books on the list that I’ve seen many times. As a fellow New Yorker, it makes sense, since the book is set in the city. It won the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, which goes to “the best fiction and nonfiction books for adult readers published in the U.S.”

Network Effect by Martha Wells is the third and last book I want to talk about. It got the prestigious Hugo Award and the Nebula Award. As someone who loves magical books that are full and full of details, I am in awe. Wells has made a name for herself as one of the best current writers of fantasy and science fiction.

Conclusion

That’s the end of our list of 9 Award Winning Novels that you should read. There are more, so don’t get too upset if your favourite book wasn’t on the list. You can talk about it below to start the discussion!
