Diddy’s Release Date Pushed Back After Alleged Prison Rule Violations

Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to remain in prison longer than initially expected, as his official release date has been delayed by almost a month. The Federal Bureau of Prisons recently updated its inmate records, revealing that the 56-year-old music mogul will now be released on June 4, 2028, instead of May 8, 2028. While officials have not provided an official reason for the change, the adjustment follows a wave of reports suggesting that Combs violated several prison regulations during his early weeks of incarceration at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Combs, once one of the most influential figures in the entertainment industry, was convicted in July 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The court sentenced him in October to 50 months in federal prison after a lengthy and high-profile trial that captured national attention. Although prosecutors sought an 11-year term, his defense team requested a much lighter sentence of about 14 months, arguing that the music executive had already faced significant personal and professional consequences. The judge ultimately imposed a four-year sentence, describing it as a balance between accountability and fairness.

Combs began serving his term shortly after his sentencing, first held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center before being transferred to Fort Dix, a low-security facility that houses more than 3,000 inmates. His time behind bars, however, has not been without controversy. Just days after he arrived at Fort Dix, reports surfaced claiming that he had been caught consuming homemade alcohol, a serious breach of prison rules. The drink was allegedly created by mixing Fanta soda, sugar, and apples, allowing it to ferment for about two weeks to create an improvised alcoholic beverage. Prison officials reportedly considered transferring him to a different unit, but after reviewing the situation, they decided to let him remain in his current housing area.

A spokesperson for Combs quickly responded to the allegations, strongly denying any misconduct. In a statement, the representative emphasized that the reports were false and sensationalized, insisting that Combs had not violated any prison policies. According to the spokesperson, Diddy remains committed to maintaining his sobriety and focusing on self-improvement while incarcerated. They urged the public and the media to avoid spreading unfounded rumors and to allow him the privacy and peace needed for personal reflection and growth. The statement stressed that, being his first week in the facility, it was inevitable that rumors would circulate about such a high-profile figure.

However, the controversy did not end there. Only a few days after the initial reports, another allegation emerged—this time claiming that Combs had engaged in a three-way phone call from inside prison, a violation of Bureau of Prisons communication rules. Inmates are strictly prohibited from adding multiple parties to a single phone call unless authorized for legal purposes. The alleged call reportedly prompted officials to consider revoking his phone privileges, a punishment often used for communication-related offenses. But Combs’ legal team immediately clarified that the call in question had been initiated by one of his attorneys, meaning it fell under attorney-client privilege, which is fully protected under prison regulations.

Combs’ publicist reiterated that he was participating in a drug treatment program and working in the chapel library, both of which are positive steps that reflect his commitment to rehabilitation. These programs often help inmates earn good behavior credits that can shorten their sentence, provided they maintain discipline and follow all institutional rules. For that reason, any alleged rule violation could potentially affect his eligibility for early release or other privileges. Whether the shift in his release date is tied to any internal disciplinary action remains unclear, but the timing has fueled speculation that it could be related to administrative or behavioral factors.

The hip-hop mogul’s legal troubles have drawn significant attention not only because of his celebrity status but also because of the severity of the charges he faced. Combs was arrested in September 2024 on a series of federal charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering, but was later acquitted of those more serious accusations. The remaining charges—related to the illegal transportation of individuals for prostitution—were enough to secure a conviction that ended decades of dominance in music, fashion, and business under his Bad Boy Records empire.

His attorneys have continued to fight the verdict and the sentence. Moments after his October sentencing, his lead defense lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, publicly criticized Judge Arun Subramanian, accusing him of acting as “a 13th juror” and unfairly influencing the outcome. The defense maintains that the judge’s actions during the trial reflected bias and coercion, which they argue contributed to a harsher sentence than warranted. The legal team has already announced plans to appeal the conviction, claiming procedural errors and judicial overreach.

Since entering prison, Combs’ daily routine has reportedly been structured around work assignments, religious services, and counseling sessions. His position in the chapel library suggests a focus on quiet, disciplined activities rather than public attention. Those close to him claim that he has adopted a routine centered on self-discipline and personal growth. Despite the headlines, his representatives say that he remains hopeful, motivated, and grounded, viewing this time as an opportunity to reset and refocus his life away from fame and controversy.

While many observers continue to speculate about the reasons behind the new release date, the Federal Bureau of Prisons has yet to confirm whether the decision was influenced by disciplinary measures, administrative recalculations, or other procedural updates. Inmates’ release dates can change due to several factors, including time-credit adjustments, participation in rehabilitation programs, or sanctions following verified rule violations. Given Diddy’s high-profile status, every development in his case continues to attract intense media attention.

As things stand, Combs is expected to remain at Fort Dix until at least June 4, 2028, unless his appeal leads to a reduction or reversal of his sentence. His team insists that he is focused on maintaining good behavior, adhering to prison rules, and continuing his legal efforts to clear his name. The coming months will reveal whether the new date marks a temporary administrative adjustment or a more serious repercussion of alleged infractions. For now, the former music tycoon remains behind bars, facing the consequences of a life that once symbolized success, power, and glamour—now defined by quiet reflection, legal battles, and the slow passage of time within prison walls.
