‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Series ‘House of the Dragon’ to Debut in August

The wait for the much-anticipated prequel is almost over: HBO has set a premiere date for George R.R. Martin, Ryan Condal, and Miguel Sapochnik’s Game of Thrones prequel. It will debut on August 21.

Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Fabien Frankel feature in House of the Dragon. Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno are among the cast members. The series is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and is based on Martin’s Fire & Blood. It centers on the Targaryen family. King Viserys Targaryen is played by Considine.

The prequel, which was ordered straight to series, began filming in April 2021. Martin and Condal, who authored the pilot script, co-created House of the Dragon. Condal will serve as co-showrunner alongside Miguel Sapochnik, a Game of Thrones alum who will direct the pilot and subsequent episodes. House of the Dragon will premiere ahead of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which is another high-budget fantasy series in the works. The streamer has previously announced the release date of its upcoming J.R.R. Tolkien adaption, which is set for September 2.
