The Hidden Benefits of Clean Air in Your Home

The Hidden Benefits of Clean Air in Your Home

When we think about air quality, we often focus on its impact on our lungs, but clean air offers much more. It can enhance physical health, improve mental well-being, and boost sleep quality. In this blog, we’ll uncover the hidden benefits of maintaining clean air in your home, showing how it can create a healthier living environment for you and your loved ones.

Physical Health

The Good

You will be surprised how many people don’t know the effects poor air quality can have on your body, newsflash, it’s more than just lung health. But before we talk about the effects of poor air quality let’s go over the benefits of good air quality. While breathing in clean healthy air you are doing your body a huge favor! You are less likely to have an asthma attack if you already have asthma and lung cancer. There are even some studies that state it reduces the risk of heart disease and strokes. Trying to breathe in healthy clean air outside will be difficult since we can’t fully control it but inside air like at your home is easily controlled. With a proper air filter, you can breathe in clean air in no time. Just make sure you pay attention to the MERV rating of the air filter and the sizing. Correct sizing of an air filter is important.

The Bad

Now to the unfortunate bad effects poor air quality can do to you. Like most people know it can cause lung disease and even cancer. You are also at risk of short-term effects like shortness of breath, eye, nose, and throat irritation, dizziness, and even nausea. The short-term effects
luckily are treatable and can go away quickly. But some of the long-term effects are more scary than most realize. If you or a loved one is pregnant make sure they stay indoors if the air quality outside is even the slightest bit bad, they are more at risk of having a low birth rate, preterm birth, and if it’s early a first-trimester pregnancy loss. We don’t want anyone to go through this, but the use of air filters inside your home decreases those risks by a lot. I would recommend checking air filters in your home whether or not you’re expecting.

Mental Health

Mental health is just as important as physical health, if your mental health isn’t good your body will react to that and start to decline as well. It’s best to take care of yourself mentally as much as possible with mental health days. Some mental health issues like anxiety and depression
could be caused by poor air quality inside your home. You might be confused about how air quality can affect your mental health so I will break it down for you to better understand it. Air pollutants can change your brain region where you control your emotions. Pollutants are known to cause inflammation in your brain as well as cause oxidative stress. And when you don’t feel physically good that also can damper your emotional state. One way to help indoor air quality and mental health is to buy plants that help clean your air naturally, not only are they nice to look but they’re helpful too. Here is a list of plants that you can put inside your home:

  • Peace Lily
  • Spider Plant
  • Aloe Vera
  • Dracaena
  • Philodendron
  • Snake Plant

Sleep Quality

Being able to sleep throughout the whole night is a blessing not everyone has. Poor indoor air quality affects your sleeping patterns more than you realize. Sleep is such a big aspect of our lives that affects our mental and physical health. A good night’s sleep can ‘cure’ some
sicknesses. The perfect sleeping conditions rely on a few factors light, noise, smells, and air quality. Keeping the room dark with the use of blinds or drapes and reducing noise or having white noise helps to fall asleep more easily. Some aromatherapy can also help you fall asleep
and stay asleep, lavender, peppermint, and chamomile are great essential oils to try out. Now air quality is the main reason why some have trouble sleeping, when you can’t breathe clearly and have a sore throat or stuffy nose it makes it harder to sleep. An air purifier can help solve
that problem. Putting an air purifier in your room reduces the stuffy air and eases you into better sleep.

Clean Air Breathing

Maintaining clean air in your home goes beyond just protecting your lungs; it plays a crucial role in enhancing your physical health, mental well-being, and sleep quality. By taking simple steps to improve indoor air quality, such as using air purifiers, incorporating houseplants, and ensuring proper ventilation, you can create a healthier and more comfortable living environment. Prioritizing clean air is an investment in your overall well-being, leading to a better quality of life for you and your loved ones. So, breathe easy and enjoy the hidden benefits of a cleaner, healthier home.
