Upon learning about his record, McLaughlin expressed his surprise and excitement: “It was? Pennzoil Chevy was unreal. Indy hasn’t been kind to me, and a lot of it was my doing. I need to work on things, and this is the first step. Really proud to do it for these guys and girls on the team.”

Power and New garden’s Strong Performances

Will Power, the 2018 Indy 500 champion, delivered a superb run, indicating the meticulous preparation by Team Penske.

“When I did my run, it was so easy and consistent I thought, ‘Man, he’s gonna be able to take a big shot,'” said Power about McLaughlin’s performance.

Josef Newgarden, who opened his run with a 234.188 mph lap, maintained a strong pace throughout, further solidifying Penske’s presence at the top.
