Kelly Clarkson Clears the Air on Weight Loss: No Ozempic Involved

Kelly Clarkson Clears the Air on Weight Loss

Kelly Clarkson is feeling stronger and healthier, but it’s not because of Ozempic, a medication that has gained popularity in Hollywood for weight loss. Recently, the “Since U Been Gone” singer addressed the rumors about her weight loss, clarifying that she did not use Ozempic, which is intended to treat type 2 diabetes.

Kelly Clarkson’s Health Journey

On the May 13 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Kelly revealed her true journey towards better health. She shared that her doctor had been encouraging her to consider Ozempic for about two years, but she was wary due to her existing thyroid problems. “My doctor chased me for like two years, and I was like, ‘No, I’m afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems,'” she explained. Kelly firmly stated, “Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic. It’s not.”

Instead, Kelly has been using a different medication that helps her body manage sugar better. This change was crucial as her blood work showed concerning results. At her heaviest, Kelly weighed 203 pounds, and this led her to seek alternatives to improve her health.

A Wake-Up Call

The turning point for Kelly came while she was watching a performance of herself at home. The 42-year-old recalled, “We were in my house in New York watching, and then all of a sudden I paused and I was like, ‘Who the f–k is that?’ I swear to god, it sounds insane.” She was shocked by the image on the screen, realizing how much her body had changed. “You see it, and you’re like, ‘Well, she about to die of a heart attack.'”

Kelly’s close friends and family also didn’t notice the gradual changes in her body. “I looked at my manager who’s known me for over 15 years, and she was like, ‘I know I’m kind of shocked as you.’ And I think because your people are with you the whole time, so it’s gradual. You don’t even realize,” Kelly shared.

Emotional and Mental Health

Despite her physical changes, Kelly emphasized that her size did not correlate with her happiness. She joked about living her best life and debunked the myth that she was miserable and depressed due to her weight. “I was riding high with someone and living my best life,” she laughed, making it clear that her emotional and mental well-being were not tied to her size.

Diet and Lifestyle Adjustments

Kelly’s health journey included significant dietary changes. After being diagnosed as pre-diabetic, she knew she needed to overhaul her eating habits. She switched to a protein-rich diet, which has been beneficial for her health. In a January interview with People, Kelly said, “I eat a healthy mix. I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor—a couple years I didn’t. And 90 percent of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway.”

Celebrity Insights on Ozempic

Kelly’s candidness about her weight loss journey contrasts with the experiences of other celebrities who have used Ozempic. Here are some of their stories:

  • Jon Gosselin: Known from Jon & Kate Plus 8, Jon told Page Six in April 2024 that he lost 32 pounds in two months after taking semaglutide, the generic form of Ozempic. Reflecting on his experience, he said, “You know what’s annoying? The regret of not starting it 10 years ago.”
  • Ree Drummond: The Pioneer Woman star shared on her blog in March 2024 that her 50-pound weight loss in 2022 was achieved without Ozempic. She emphasized, “You’ll never hear a second of judgment from me about people who choose that direction!”
  • Tracy Morgan: In August 2023, the 30 Rock alum said on Today With Hoda and Jenna that he lost weight on Ozempic because it suppressed his appetite. However, by March 2024, he humorously claimed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, “I’ve learned to out-eat Ozempic,” later clarifying to E! News that he was joking and appreciated the medication’s help.
  • Brooke Burke: In an interview with Fox News Digital, the TV personality spoke about Ozempic’s mixed results, saying, “I can’t speak medically about it, but I do know that there’s so much information about what’s working and what’s not. I think that Ozempic has some great benefits, and I also think it has some dangers.”
  • Tori Spelling: The Beverly Hills, 90210 star shared on her podcast in April 2024 that she tried Ozempic after giving birth to her son Beau in 2017, but it didn’t work for her. She then switched to Mounjaro, which helped her lose weight.
  • Raven-Symoné: Raven stressed the importance of using medications for their intended purpose, telling E! News, “I think it’s very important we understand certain medications are made for certain people, and to not take that away just for glamazon purposes.”
  • Kelly Osbourne: The Fashion Police alum praised Ozempic, saying in January 2024, “There are a million ways to lose weight, why not do it through something that isn’t as boring as working out?”
  • Heidi Montag: The Hills star revealed in December 2023 that she lost 22 pounds without Ozempic. She told Page Six, “There’s no shortcuts in life. And if you’re taking that shortcut, I don’t know. It’s just nothing I would ever do.”
  • Khloe Kardashian: Khloe defended her fitness regimen on Instagram in January 2023, responding to Ozempic speculation by saying, “Let’s not discredit my years of working out. I get up 5 days a week at 6 am to train. Please stop with your assumptions. I guess new year still means mean people.”
