Modi’s recent post expressed enthusiasm about an important milestone in the global expansion of UPI. This is a fantastic illustration of promoting digital payments and cultivating stronger connections.
In 2016, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) created the Unified Payments Interface, an instant payment system in India. This system enables the consolidation of multiple bank accounts into a single mobile app, regardless of the participating bank.
According to NPCI, the apps’ service combines a number of banking features into a practical platform, including simple fund routing and merchant payments.
According to news agency PTI, the NPCI has announced a partnership between its subsidiary NPCI International Payments (NIPL) and French company Lyra, which specializes in e-commerce and proximity payments. This collaboration has played a crucial role in establishing the acceptance of the UPI payment mechanism in a prominent European country, beginning with the iconic Eiffel Tower.
Visitors from India who are exploring the Eiffel Tower can now conveniently make payments by scanning a QR code provided on the merchant’s website. The Eiffel Tower has become a pioneer in France by introducing UPI payments for its customers. Other merchants in the tourism and retail spaces across France and Europe will soon have the opportunity to benefit from the extended service.
According to the statement, Indian tourists are currently the second-largest group of international visitors to the Eiffel Tower.
Recently, the prime minister extended an invitation to Emmanuel Macron, President of France, to be the chief guest for the 75th Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi on January 26.
