Following a lengthy downtime, YouTube TV users now have access to Disney channels, according to a contract reached between the media conglomerate and Google to offer members with the Disney-owned networks.
The channels were removed from view on Saturday after a failed Friday deal to allow Google’s YouTube TV to offer users access to Disney titles on its channel lineup. The scenario has flipped in less than 24 hours.
Disney’s programs will now be available to YouTube TV customers thanks to a new arrangement between Google and Disney. Users are gradually regaining access to Disney networks like ESPN and FX, including live and on-demand material, as well as any recordings they may have in their library.
Google claims in a blog post update that the arrangement was achieved “while keeping” the $64.99 YouTube TV membership rate. The phrase “while preserving” indicates that the dispute was over fees, with Disney most likely requesting more money.
Google said in a deal advisory on Saturday that “Our request to Disney, like with all of our partners, is that they treat YouTube TV like any other TV provider, by charging us the same rates as other services of similar scale for as long as we run Disney’s channels. We’ll renew our contract if Disney offers us fair conditions.”
While Disney material was off the air, Google promised YouTube TV users a $15 discount, which it says it will still respect. Active members who have not yet gotten the reduction on their monthly bill will receive it automatically on their next one.
Subscribers who chose to cancel can re-enroll in the Base Plan to keep their subscription. The $15 credit will be recognized if the membership is reinstated before the user loses access.
