Will Ferrell Brings Laughter as Ron Burgundy at Tom Brady’s Star-Studded Roast?
Laughter filled the air in Los Angeles as actor Will Ferrell, donning his iconic Ron Burgundy character from “Anchorman,” took the stage to roast NFL legend Tom Brady at a live Netflix event.
Joining a star-studded lineup of comedians and celebrities, Ferrell added his signature humor to the night’s hilarious jabs aimed at the former quarterback.
The roast, which featured no shortage of jokes about Brady’s ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and his famously well-preserved looks, kicked into high gear when Ferrell targeted Brady’s longtime NFL rival, Eli Manning.
With his signature anchorman bravado, Ferrell quipped, “You don’t see Eli Manning here tonight, do you? That’s ’cause Tom’s afraid of Eli Manning.”
He then led the raucous crowd in a playful chant, “Eli Manning made Tom Brady his ‘bitch,'” drawing a mix of boos and enthusiastic participation from the audience.
Ferrell didn’t hold back in taking aim at Brady’s former Patriots coach, Bill Belichick, either.
He delivered jabs like, “Hey Bill, wherever you are, just know it was Tom, not you,” and a playful nod to Belichick’s current job status, “Bill, now that you’re currently unemployed, good luck on ZipRecruiter.”
The comedic star then introduced Belichick himself, who joined the roast on stage to poke fun at his former star quarterback and teammates.
As the night progressed, more A-list celebrities took their turn skewering the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) quarterback.
Oscar winner Ben Affleck, known for his love of Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffees and the New England Patriots, balanced his affections with well-aimed ribbings at Brady.
Upon taking the stage to a standing ovation, Affleck opened with, “I’m just in time. This is pretty fucking ballsy of you.” The Boston native’s deep connections to the Red Sox, Patriots, and Dunkin’ are well-documented, with Brady even appearing in commercials alongside Affleck and his friend Matt Damon.
Affleck didn’t hold back on the Patriots’ passionate fanbase, known for their criticism of decisions made throughout Brady’s career and the franchise’s history. “You’re not fans. You’re a bitch,” he jabbed.
While light on laugh-out-loud jokes, Affleck threw some pointed barbs at Coach Belichick, too: “I got season tickets. You work for me, motherfucker.”
As host Kevin Hart took over following Affleck’s set, he quipped, “Another piece of white boy humor,” with Roastmaster Jeff Ross adding, “This is the first time I wish Netflix had commercials” – a nod to the robust, three-hour ceremony filled with many awkward moments.
Hart then introduced a surprise roaster, none other than Peyton Manning, Brady’s longtime rival and fellow all-time great quarterback.
The raucous roast, filmed for an upcoming Netflix comedy special, demonstrated the reverence and good-natured ribbing reserved for an iconic athlete like Tom Brady.
While no one was off-limits from the comedic jabs, the evening celebrated Brady’s incredible career through the lens of humor from Hollywood’s biggest stars and his NFL peers.
As the legendary quarterback himself said when taking the stage, “I’ve been taking hits on the field for 23 years. I can handle a few jokes.”
And based on the non-stop laughter throughout the night, Brady and his roasters certainly delivered plenty of memorable zingers and side-splitting moments.
