4 Coronavirus Myths Busted

coronavirus myth buster

We live in an age of disinformation, with plenty of rumors, half-truths, and pure fiction-making their rounds on various outlets online. The onset of the coronavirus pandemic has been the impetus for many myths and lies spread online.

Very little of the coronavirus myths out there have even an ounce of truth to them. It’s important to dispose of these fictions and focus on the truth.

Read on and we’ll debunk a few of the major covid19 myths below.

1. Only Old People Are at Risk

One of the most pervasive falsehoods of the COVID era is that young people do not face any risk from the virus. COVID-19 can be transmitted to people of any age, and people of any age can become severely ill.

Yes, people older in health are more likely to have pre-existing conditions that could be deadly in combination with COVID. This is one of the COVID facts everyone seems to agree on.

However, young people can still become severely ill and some young people have passed away from the disease.

2. Spraying Alcohol on the Skin

One of the more ridiculous rumors that spread during the pandemic was the idea that if you apply alcohol of some sort onto the skin, it could actually kill the virus within the body.

Not only will this kind of behavior do nothing to curb the virus, but it can also actually be harmful to the skin. It can be dangerous if it gets into the eyes or mouth and should be avoided.

The only alcohol product worth using is this scented hand sanitizer moisturizer spray which can help to kill germs on your hands and fight off infection.

3. Face Masks Provide 100% Protection

One commonly misrepresented fact during the pandemic was about the protection that face masks argued. Many who argued for the adopted use of face masks erroneously claimed that two people wearing masks would make it near impossible to spread the virus.

This claim simply was not supported by science. While masks certainly helped to lessen the spread of COVID-19, the real percentage of effectiveness was closer to something like 30-40%.

It’s important to maintain social distance and wash your hands properly in addition to wearing a mask.

4. Warm Weather Kills the Virus

Hot, humid air does make it more difficult to spread the virus when outdoors. However, rumors and myths regarding the ability of high temperatures to kill the virus did not prove to have much scientific basis.

While rates of exposure and transfer were lower in many places during warmer months, it’s likely only because more people opted to be outside instead of indoors, where the virus has an easier time moving from person to person.

The idea that warm weather itself kills the COVID virus has no basis in fact.
