Pro Tips For Dealing With Dry Skin

Living with dry skin isn’t fun. It’s itchy, often red, and just uncomfortable in general.

But is there actually anything you can do about it?

It turns out that there are a large number of strategies you can use. These won’t guarantee results, of course, but they can have a significant impact on the level of dryness and your quality of life.

Use Natural Remedies When You Need Relief

Our first piece of advice is to use natural remedies when you feel like you need some sort of relief. These can be highly effective and are things that people have been using for a long time, sometimes hundreds or thousands of years.

For example, a lot of people apply extra virgin olive oil to the skin to keep it supple, or an avocado mask. These oils work because they also contain natural polyphenols, which helps to keep the tissue healthy and in a decent condition.

Wear Breathable Fabrics

At the same time, you’ll want to explore wearing more breathable fabrics. These keep moisture passing through and prevent your skin from being starved of the atmospheric conditions it needs to thrive.

The best fabrics are those that are most natural, like cotton and wool. These help you maintain moisture levels and barriers in the skin, making dry and irritated skin more comfortable, especially in winter weather or when there is dry heat.

Protect Your Skin From Irritants In The Environment

You’ll also want to protect your skin from irritants in the environment. These can wear away at your dry skin and make it even worse.

If the weather is

cold or windy, make sure you use an SPF that contains a moisturiser. Protecting yourself from UV is critical because it can actually make dryness in the skin worse.

If you need to humidify indoor air when the air conditioning is on, then do so. Adding additional moisture will, again, make your skin more comfortable.

You could even open the window if you are inside and in a low pollution area. Humidity in outdoor areas tends to be quite high most of the time in most locations, so it is always something that’s worth looking into.

Choose Gentle Cleansers

Another thing you’ll want to do is choose gentle cleansers. You don’t want anything that’s going to scrub the skin of its natural oils.

Gentle cleaners aren’t that hard to find these days, and there are plenty of options for individuals with dry skin. These usually contain various moisturizing components, which is helpful when you just want to feel supple and comfortable.

Use Light Therapy

Finally, you could look into using light therapy, something that’s been proven to help with a lot of people’s dry skin. Technology is advancing all the time.

For example, you could look into phototherapy for eczema. These techniques aim to renew the skin from the bottom up, making it more supple and comfortable.

You could also explore various red light options. These are becoming increasingly popular as science progresses.
