Pop icon Lady Gaga has taken another major step toward joining the elite EGOT club, winning a Sports Emmy for her stirring performance of “Hold My Hand” at the 2025 Super Bowl tribute in New Orleans.

Awarded for Outstanding Music Direction at the Sports Emmys

At the 45th Annual Sports Emmy Awards, Lady Gaga won in the Outstanding Music Direction category, a segment that typically celebrates artistic excellence in sports-related broadcasting. Her performance aired as part of the Super Bowl LVIII pre-game tribute, which honored the victims of the New Year’s Day terrorist attack that took place on Bourbon Street, New Orleans.

The tribute segment outshined several notable competitors, including:

  • “Evolution of the Black Quarterback” (NFL Media)

  • “The Lionheart” (ESPN Films/Disney)

  • “Noche UFC: For Mexico, For All Time” (ESPN Deportes)

  • “The Turnaround” (CBS Sports Network)

The Emmy win was shared with the production team, including Seth Dudowsky, Bill Richards, Joel Santos, Jesse Weiss, and Brad Zager, with Joe Nargi serving as music editor.

Performance That Moved Millions

Gaga’s emotional rendition of “Hold My Hand” — originally written for the film Top Gun: Maverick — was staged in the heart of New Orleans’ Bourbon Street. She played the piano live, backed by a full band and a powerful gospel choir. The performance aired just before the national anthem and was praised for its respectful and stirring tone.

Law enforcement officers, emergency responders, and military veterans were given front-row seats as a gesture of appreciation for their service. Notable figures in attendance included Tom Brady, the retired NFL superstar, and Michael Strahan, former New York Giants player and current media personality.

The tribute aimed to unify viewers in remembrance and healing following the attack that claimed 14 lives and left dozens injured.

“Hold My Hand” — A Song With Deep Emotional Resonance

Hold My Hand

“Hold My Hand,” co-written and performed by Lady Gaga for the 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, was played during the film’s emotional final moments. The song was previously nominated for a Grammy Award and a Golden Globe Award, reinforcing its cultural significance and global impact.

Critics and fans alike praised Gaga’s decision to perform this song in New Orleans, given its themes of strength, resilience, and togetherness. It was seen as a perfect anthem to honor the victims and express national solidarity.

Gaga Is Now One Award Away from EGOT

With this Sports Emmy, Lady Gaga now holds an Emmy, Grammy, and Academy Award, bringing her one step closer to the exclusive EGOT title — awarded to artists who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

  • Oscar: Best Original Song for “Shallow” (A Star Is Born, 2019)

  • Grammys: 14 wins including Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album

  • Emmy: Now secured with this Sports Emmy for Music Direction

All Gaga now needs is a Tony Award to complete the EGOT quartet. While she hasn’t officially announced a Broadway project yet, rumors have circulated that she is considering a stage role in the next few years.

Global Tour: Mayhem Ball in Singapore Draws Massive Crowds

Gaga recently wrapped up two sold-out shows at Singapore’s National Stadium as part of her Mayhem Ball World Tour. These performances marked her first return to Singapore in over a decade. The concerts combined theatrical staging with live renditions of new and classic tracks, including “Stupid Love,” “Born This Way,” and “Bloody Mary.”

Local media reports suggest the event drew over 90,000 fans across two nights, boosting Singapore’s post-pandemic entertainment economy. Many international fans flew in for the show, with hotel occupancy around the venue reportedly reaching peak capacity.

Netflix’s Tudum 2025: Gaga to Perform at Global Streaming Event

Lady Gaga will also take the stage at Netflix’s Tudum 2025: The Live Event, set to air globally on May 31, 2025. The high-profile event will feature star-studded appearances from Netflix’s biggest shows like Stranger Things, Bridgerton, and Wednesday.

According to Netflix’s press release, Gaga’s appearance is expected to include a special live performance, although the details are being kept under wraps. With over 300 million subscribers worldwide, Tudum offers a prime platform for Gaga to reach new global audiences.

Gaga Confirmed for Cameo in “Wednesday” Season 2

Adding to her busy schedule, Gaga is confirmed to appear in Season 2 of Netflix’s hit series “Wednesday.” Though producers have not released details about her role, sources familiar with the production say it will be a “memorable cameo” that connects with the show’s gothic, surreal tone.

Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams and has been praised for its quirky mix of horror and dark humor. The upcoming season will be released in two parts:

  • Part 1: Premieres on August 6, 2025

  • Part 2: Drops on September 3, 2025

Gaga’s inclusion is expected to draw even more attention to the series, which already has a massive fan following.

Lady Gaga’s journey from pop sensation to globally respected multi-disciplinary artist continues to evolve. With her recent Sports Emmy win, her role in Wednesday, global touring success, and Netflix collaboration, she is proving once again that she is not only a performer — she is a cultural force.

As she edges closer to EGOT status, fans and critics alike are eagerly watching what she’ll do next — and many believe a Tony Award might just be within reach.
