Rosamund Pike Feared Nipple Covers Tore Pierce Brosnan’s Chest Hair

Award-winning actress Rosamund Pike is opening up about one of her most awkward moments in Hollywood—filming a steamy love scene with Pierce Brosnan in the 2002 James Bond blockbuster Die Another Day. In a candid and humorous interview on David Tennant’s podcast, David Tennant Does a Podcast With…, Pike detailed the behind-the-scenes mishap that left her “mortified”—and mistakenly believing she was waxing her legendary co-star’s chest.

The Scene That Got Too Hairy — Literally

Pike, now 46, was just 23 years old when she starred as Miranda Frost, a cold and calculating double agent in Die Another Day. It was her big-screen debut, and stepping into the role of a Bond girl came with high pressure and plenty of unfamiliar experiences—including the intricacies of filming intimate scenes.

One such scene was filmed on a swan-shaped bed covered in fake fur rugs, meant to give the moment an opulent and seductive atmosphere. But what was supposed to be a romantic clinch between Brosnan’s 007 and Pike’s character quickly turned awkward.

“I discovered things like nipple covers and all the taping for the first time,” Pike recalled during the podcast. “We have this clinch, and then we separate, and I look down—and the nipple covers and the body tape are covered in hair. And I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m waxing Pierce’s chest!’”

A Moment of Panic Turned Into a Funny Realization

The shock of what she believed was happening left Pike completely flustered. “I was so mortified,” she said. “I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s so brave. I’m pulling off his chest hair with every embrace!’”

She went on to explain that the crew had to do a few takes of the scene, during which she continued worrying about the situation—until someone helped clarify the misunderstanding.

“It took a couple of takes to realize it was not him—it was the fake fur of the rugs adorning the swan bed,” she said, laughing at the memory. “I literally thought I was waxing the poor man’s chest.”

The anecdote highlights the often-unseen awkwardness actors go through while shooting romantic scenes, especially when elaborate sets and costumes are involved.

Pierce Brosnan: “An Absolute Gent”

Pierce Brosnan

Despite the 26-year age difference—Brosnan was 49 at the time of filming—Pike had nothing but praise for her co-star. She described Brosnan as “an absolute gent,” saying he handled the situation with poise and professionalism.

She also expressed admiration for how gracefully he navigated both the intimate scenes and the pressures of playing one of cinema’s most iconic characters. “He was charming, kind, and made me feel incredibly comfortable on set,” she noted.

Their chemistry on screen was a critical part of the film, and Pike’s portrayal of the icy Miranda Frost received acclaim for adding complexity to the traditional Bond girl trope.

The Audition That Almost Didn’t Happen

While Pike eventually nailed the role, her path to becoming a Bond girl was anything but conventional. In the same interview, she revealed she had never watched a James Bond movie before her audition. “I came in completely blind,” she admitted. “I didn’t even understand the style or tone of a Bond film at the time.”

She also remembered making what she thought was a sophisticated wardrobe choice—wearing one of her mother’s concert dresses to the audition. “It was elegant, black, and modest. I thought I looked refined and Bond-worthy,” Pike said.

But the casting team had a different idea of what a Bond girl should wear. She recalled one of them saying, “That’s a very, very lovely dress, but Bond girls wear things more like this,” while showing her a shimmering, form-fitting sheath dress instead.

The Underwear Request She Refused

The audition took a more uncomfortable turn when Pike was asked to “drop her dress” and appear in her underwear on camera for the tape that would be circulated among producers in Los Angeles.

In a 2018 interview with Amazon’s Audible Sessions, Pike had previously spoken about this incident, calling it one of the more unsettling moments early in her career.

“I just thought, ‘If they’re going to see me in my underwear, they better give me the job,’” she said. “So I thought, ‘There’s no way I’m going to take off a dress in the audition for this tape to be sent around Los Angeles and to be judged on that.’”

The experience, while uncomfortable, didn’t deter her from landing the role—and she would later become one of the standout Bond girls of the Brosnan era.

From Bond Girl to Award-Winning Star

Though Die Another Day received mixed reviews, Pike’s performance was widely praised and helped catapult her into mainstream cinema. Over the years, she has gone on to earn critical acclaim for her roles in Gone Girl, A Private War, and Radioactive. In 2021, she won a Golden Globe Award for her role in the Netflix thriller I Care a Lot.

Her versatility as an actress has continued to impress audiences worldwide. Whether portraying a calculating con artist or a historical icon, Pike brings intensity and authenticity to every role she undertakes.

What’s Next for Rosamund Pike?

Pike is currently starring in the hit Prime Video fantasy series The Wheel of Time, which has been renewed and is now entering its third season. Her portrayal of Moiraine Damodred, a powerful sorceress and member of the Aes Sedai, has received praise from both fans of the book series and new viewers alike.

She is also set to appear in the upcoming heist thriller Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, a continuation of the Now You See Me franchise. The film is scheduled for release on November 14, 2025, and will feature a mix of returning cast members and new faces. Pike’s role has not been fully revealed, but insiders describe her character as “mysterious, brilliant, and central to the plot.”

Looking Back, Laughing Now

Rosamund Pike’s honest and humorous reflection on her Bond girl days serves as a reminder that even the most glamorous Hollywood moments can come with their share of uncomfortable truths.

Whether it’s mistakenly thinking she was waxing Pierce Brosnan’s chest or refusing to strip in an audition, Pike’s dignity, wit, and integrity have guided her career from the very beginning. Her story is one of talent, tenacity, and the ability to laugh at yourself—and audiences continue to admire her for all of it.
